eversohungry: (I don't know but she was very brave)

[Vastra watches him for a moment, a somewhat quixotic smile on her face.] No, I understand your curiosity. Humans are very curious.

There are many names for 'what' I am. Homo reptilia is popular, psionosauropodomorpha is a little archaic. Most of time and space identifies myself and my sisters as 'Silurian', silurians plural.

We lived on what humans know as Earth long before the time of humans. We predicted that a large mass would strike the planet and cause planet-wide extinction and death. And so we put ourselves into prolonged hibernation deep underground.

[Vastra shrugs lightly, as though trying to shrug off the memory of her reawakening. It isn't one of her proudest.] Humans are curious and industrious. I was awoken when a group of tunnel diggers, beginning the underground system, happened upon a clutch. They were afraid, and killed most of my sisters.

[She takes a moment to set that aside.] Which left me. And I'm almost glad to hear that one woman with an 'unexplained skin condition' has not appeared in any books. My kind does not need any extra attention.
