Reserves have just opened and apps are right around the corner. But are you still on the fence about any of your would-be characters? Well -- here is your chance to take them out for a spin!
▣ TAG IN or reply to others with characters you would like to test drive for Luceti.
▣ ONLY add top-level comments for characters who are not yet in the game. You're free to reply to others with Luceti characters (because that's half the fun) but remember that the whole point of this meme is for potential characters.
▣ PLEASE do not post duplicates of characters already in Luceti.
▣ GO AHEAD and give us a brief description of your character in the top-level comment, along with one or two possible ways to run into your test-driven character around town.
▣ YOU MAY use these threads for your first person samples on your app -- just make sure that you link threads of a goodly length (i.e., threads with at least ten comments from your character).
Need a little help getting started? Remember, you needn't post here as though your character is still brand-spankin' new. It'll probably be more fun for all involved if this isn't a simple dress rehearsal for showing up. Here are a few scenario ideas:
o1. The grocery store is out of food. What do you do?
o2. Wing injury! Call for help or stagger your way to one of our fine clinics.
o3. It's a busy evening at Good Spirits, one of Luceti's local bars. Do you dare try the drink specials?
o4. Have a talent for playing music? Try Cloud Nine's open mic night!
o5. Beach party? Snow party? Leaf-raking party? Gardening party? YOU DECIDE.
Okay. So my examples are pretty non-exciting. But they're really just suggestions. I'm POSITIVE you kids can come up with more creative things.
Above all? HAVE FUN. Oh. And don't forget to RESERVE your characters.
Captain Barbossa | Pirates of the Caribbean
[The pirate didn't think he could ever get used to some things about the quaint village of Luceti. Good Spirits, the local bar that Captain Barbossa now graced with his presence, was one of them - even if it was one of the few places here where he felt the closest to home possible.
The rum, specifically. It simply lacked somehow. Or, in some cases, it wasn't even bloody there - which, strangely enough, did actually remind him of home even more. It would always be gone before long. Thankfully though, he was now having a bottle of said beverage, his monkey Jack on his shoulder.
The bar would often remind him of good times spent aboard the Pearl (minus the curse he endured) or the Queen Anne's Revenge, and therefore made him think about the fact that with all of his time here, he still didn't have a ship - or a crew, for that matter. He found himself missing the spray of the sea and how the wind on his face would feel while on deck, and that left him in a slightly bitter mood today.
Despite his brooding on those matters, Captain Barbossa should still be fairly approachable, however. It looks like he'll be spending a lot of time here.]
II.
[The grocery store was out of apples.
Yes, it was out of food as a whole, but for Captain Barbossa, what mattered was that it was out of apples. And he had just been in the mood for one. Jack, the monkey on his shoulder, was clearly hungry too - and because of his master's diet, he had grown accustomed to eating apples himself.
There were people helping out resupply the store, but it was a quick trip to the nearby forest that Captain Barbossa immediately undertook, looking for the apple trees he had found shortly after his arrival in Luceti (and, of course, memorized the location of).
However, it sure was a big forest, and it always took him some time until he found them. You may find him before that, though, as he wanders around in his desperate search.]
II
...Hmm?
no subject
The oddly dressed, peculiarly equipped man was staring at Barbossa just as curiously as the pirate himself was, which made the latter furrow his brows a bit.]
What are ye lookin' at, boy?
no subject
I was just...curious. Are you searching for something?
no subject
Is it that obvious?
[The pirate offered no further explanation yet, and instead took a couple of cautious steps towards the man, despite not sensing any ill intent from him. He hadn't crossed paths with the likes of him before.]
What about ye, boy? What could ye be doing here, all alone, hmm?
no subject
I come out here often. I commune with nature, and keep an eye out for people needing assistance.
no subject
Do you now?
[Barbossa was struck by intrigue, as well as a degree of amusement from the other man's words. He let his guard down a little as he gave a toothy grin.]
Well, then. Shall we put that to the test? Ask your nature where I may find some bloody apple trees, boy.
no subject
[He's surprised at the inquiry, but asking nature was not necessary. He knew where the apple trees were.]
This way.
[He picked up his staff and turned to lead the way, a part of him a bit wary about turning his back to a pirate.]
no subject
[Another chuckle, and a moment of silence of Barbossa silently regarding the man as he followed him. His monkey, Jack, was clearly thrilled already, judging by the shrill noises he was making.
The pirate would hold his excitement until he had an apple in his hand, however.
He eventually spoke up again.]
I'm curious. How does this... communing with nature of yours work, exactly, hmm?
no subject
You focus on all the sights and sounds around you. The sunlight, the shade, the breeze, all the creatures...you immerse yourself in nature's creation. Set aside your petty desires, and you will feel at peace. And then you appreciate what it means to be alive.
[Shortly, he came to a clearing with a few apple trees standing here and there.]
no subject
The pirate certainly knew that feeling. He died once. And then he actually returned to the land of the living; he was given a second chance. And before he knew, he stood on a ship's deck again - and he never felt more alive.
His fortunes have changed since then, obviously. Again.]
Petty desires, eh? And which ones of those have ye set aside?
[What he said coincided with his eyes coming into contact with the first apple he had seen that day upon coming to the clearing with Saleh, now remembering that they were there. Jack immediately let out a yelp and left his shoulder, eagerly running towards the trees.]
Well, well.
[He sauntered a bit closer to one of the apple trees.]

scenario 1
[ said the blonde barmaid as she eyed the pirate up. huh. god, that man needed a bath. and a haircut. ]
no subject
He eyed up the barmaid before answering himself, considering her offer. A ship and a crew would be nice, for starters.]
Ugh... Got more rum for me, miss?
no subject
[ why always the rum? she sighs and twists her upped body so she can grab at a dark-coloured bottle. ] Why does no one ever ask for a -- oh, I don't know -- a Long Island Iced Tea? I didn't bone up on my bartending flair just to pour well shots for the rest of my Luceti life, y'know.
[ apparently, the rum comes with a free helping of sass in this neck of the woods. ]
no subject
[A scoff left Barbossa's mouth, the gentleman now amused. He would've been in a slightly worse mood if there was no more rum left for him to give.]
Most of what ye have here is... too sophisticated for one such as I. Besides, they don't serve Long Island Iced Tea from where I hail from.
[Not that it would've been a popular choice among fellow pirates.]
no subject
and she pours a decent measure. with a smile. ] And where do you hail from, sailor?
no subject
[At least that's what he considered to be his true home.
After he needily took the beverage and quickly drank down a decent amount of it, the scowl returned on his face.]
Quite a... contrast to this little place, one could say.
no subject

Leaving the bottle aside and placing down the tumbler, sitting straight up, Barbossa gives the woman a curious, slightly irritated look.]
In what way is it for ye then, if ye don't mind sharing the tale, miss...?
no subject
...And for one thing? If I was doing this back home, I'd be getting paid for it.[ but she wouldn't be doing this back home. moot point. ] For another, there'd be a whole lot more people. And even more monsters besides. Actually, this place is weirdly peaceful, in comparison.
Huh.

I AM GLAD ALY POINTED ME AT YOUR POST I MISSED IT!
[Someone familiar is leaning against a tree, arms folded, a terrible smile on his face and two loaded pistols tucked into his belt.]
And that's dangerous in this land. Natives, you know. Giant pygmies. Honey badgers.
[[ALSO THIS IS SCENARIO 2 SORRY]]
Wondered when this guy will show up!
Well, well. What a pleasant surprise. Even Jack's namesake, who let out a shrill cry, seemed thrilled.]
Ye're not the one who should be reminding me of that, Captain Jack Sparrow.
[He took a couple of steps towards his fellow pirate, keeping his gaze on him, breaking it off only to take notice of the two loaded pistols in his belt.
An amused cackle escaped his mouth.]
Seems like ye're taking care of yerself fairly well. Made too many enemies already, have ye? Or are those loaded with one shot?
I'M HERE I'M HERE
[Ugh. That monkey. Though that reminds him:]
ALSO I've got me a kitty-cat now! And guess what his name is?
Don't worry, I post pretty randomly myself!
And it's largely why upon being asked the question, the amused smile Barbossa wore on his features disappeared, and his face froze suspiciously.]
...What?
