Alright, I get it. So the journal is some sort of half-book half-iPad technomagical means of communicating, and this place gives you wings. [ A beat. ] There's -- there's a cheesy Red Bull ad in there somewhere, but I'm not going there.

[ She clears her throat. ]

I'm -- my name is Jane Foster. I'm a astrophysicist with SHIELD, if that means anything to anyone. -- Please tell me it means something to someone. For once I'd be happy to put up with all their obfuscation and bureaucratic red tape and smug, irritating agents if it meant I was home. Working.

Do -- the people who bring us here, do they even care when or how or ... anything about the time they bring us from? I was on the verge of discovering -- something incredible, maybe the answer to all their problems -- I mean, assuming they want people to go home. What do I know? Maybe they don't!

Whoa--hold your horses, let's back this up a bit and start with an explanation of who Loki is.

I've been in this backwater Twilight Zone full of talking ponies and ninja turtles for ten months now. Just try me.

... he's ... he is exactly what he sounds like. He's Loki. The Norse god of mischief. Well -- I guess not really Norse, because it turns out the whole Norse pantheon? Aliens. Technically. Not from around here.

[ A beat. ]

Thor, the thunder god, got banished to Earth a while ago. He -- he eventually got his powers back and ... went home to go after Loki. Something must have gone wrong, but I don't know what. Loki came back. [ ... ] I'm not the best person to ask for all the details. I got -- moved. Out of the way. When things started happening. Everything I know is just from seeing the news and putting together the pieces concerning what I already knew to be true.

But the Avengers part is undeniable. You guys are a worldwide phenomenon now. I don't think there's a person on the planet who doesn't know your names.
