don't stop me now
Reserves have just opened and apps are right around the corner. But are you still on the fence about any of your would-be characters? Well -- here is your chance to take them out for a spin!
▣ TAG IN or reply to others with characters you would like to test drive for Luceti.
▣ ONLY add top-level comments for characters who are not yet in the game. You're free to reply to others with Luceti characters (because that's half the fun) but remember that the whole point of this meme is for potential characters.
▣ PLEASE do not post duplicates of characters already in Luceti.
▣ GO AHEAD and give us a brief description of your character in the top-level comment, along with one or two possible ways to run into your test-driven character around town.
▣ YOU MAY use these threads for your first person samples on your app -- just make sure that you link threads of a goodly length (i.e., threads with at least ten comments from your character).
Need a little help getting started? Remember, you needn't post here as though your character is still brand-spankin' new. It'll probably be more fun for all involved if this isn't a simple dress rehearsal for showing up. Here are a few scenario ideas:
o1. The grocery store is out of food. What do you do?
o2. Wing injury! Call for help or stagger your way to one of our fine clinics.
o3. It's a busy evening at Good Spirits, one of Luceti's local bars. Do you dare try the drink specials?
o4. Have a talent for playing music? Try Cloud Nine's open mic night!
o5. Beach party? Snow party? Leaf-raking party? Gardening party? YOU DECIDE.
Okay. So my examples are pretty non-exciting. But they're really just suggestions. I'm POSITIVE you kids can come up with more creative things.
Above all? HAVE FUN. Oh. And don't forget to RESERVE your characters.
[voice] holy mac and cheese.
You should have spoken up sooner. [ there's no scolding like a sisterly scolding. ] Chris.
[voice] I COULDN'T RESIST and now I'm tempted and wow my spelling sucks tonight...!
[It's partly true, but his attention has also been elsewhere. Luceti's a big place, there's still so much to see...! But knowing that Claire's here, it doesn't take more than a second for him to switch gears.]
Where are you? Are you alright?
[voice] i'm sure my spelling can't be much better. i'm not normally up this late :|
[ there's no easy way to voice the exhaustion that comes with their lives. she knows that chris understands it far better than she does. so, instead, she focuses on the now. ] I'm okay, Chris. The feathers are still more than a little tender, but...
I'm okay. [ ... ] You'd better be okay, too.
[voice] Who needs sleep, anyway?!
[Exhausted didn't even begin to describe how he'd been feeling, but he can't focus on the negative. Not with his sister around.
Claire seems to be fine (or as fine as fine can be here, anyway), so he can relax a bit. Still, he wants nothing more right now than to see his little sister in person. Just to be sure.]
Seventh Heaven, right? I hope you won't mind some company.
[voice] sadly? me. soon.
eventually, this place's own flavour of bone-deep terror would hit her. at night, perhaps. in the shadows. until then, she will persist with being okay and believing that he is fine. ]
Company is more than welcome. I could do with a familiar face. [ one well-loved and always-missed. ]
[voice] -> [action] Aww, it's okay. I won't tell anyone!
[...well, maybe not as soon as he'd like, given he's nowhere near the restaurant at the moment, but Chris has always been a man of his word, so he'll definitely be there. Just... maybe a little late.
When he finally gets there, though, Chris walks through the restaurant with purpose. He's never been here before, but that's fine, because he knows exactly what he's looking for.]
[action] you're a gem.
the journal should have been enough to occupy her, but she should found herself growing bored with the pages. oh, the content is certainly thrilling; however, she can't hope to concentrate on them with her stomach so uneasy. now that she knows he's here, she can't sit calmly until she's seen him. she has never been very good at sitting tight and waiting around for her brother.
but finally, there's one moment when the door opens and the body that steps through it -- unlike all the ones before it -- is familiarly shaped. claire shoves her chair back from the table and takes the immediate opportunity to stand, clasping her hands loosely at the hollow of her throat. penitent, almost. she'd never go so far as to call it prayer. ]
Chris. [ at first, she only mouths his name. whispers it. but then it's a full fledged shout -- rest of the restaurant be damned! and she abandons the last untouched third of her rapidly cooling coffee just to weave her way through tables and patrons, eager to catch him in her arms.
he looks older than she remembers. he looks as though he's seen more, and that prospect disturbs her. but questions come later. now was the time for reunification. ]
[action]
With just a little space left between them, he opens his arms, figuring that she'll probably reach him first. It didn't really matter how long it had been for them, finding themselves in the same place all of a sudden was a thing that didn't happen too often. And even if it was in a place like this, it'd always be good to see her, just to know she was okay.]
Sorry for making you wait.
[Like... always... But even so, he smiles when he sees her.]
[action]
Again -- [ she murmurs her toothless complaint into his shirtsleeve. ] Chris, I'm not sure it's possible for you to understand just how glad I am to not be alone here.
[ is she pleased to learn her brother is also an apparent prisoner of this malnosso organization with the eerily familiar description? no. hardly. but she is grateful not to be alone. strength in numbers allows her to kick at the darkness until it bleeds daylight. ]
[action]
But because of that, he's certainly in no hurry to let her go.]
Really? I thought you didn't need to be looked out for. [His tone is light, teasing, as he pats her on the head. Maybe they're older now, but she's still his little sister. He definitely understood where she was coming from, though.] I'm glad to see you're alright. I was worried.
[action]
Besides, everything I've learned since landing here sheds more than a little doubt on any zero-hour heroics. Mine or yours. But it's still...[ she offers his shoulder a nudge from her knuckles. ] If this place really is the long-haul that guide said it was? I'm not going to be ungrateful for a familiar face. [ sigh. ] No matter how selfish it sounds.
[action]
...of course, even if she didn't need it, looking out for her is exactly what he'd do as long as they were here. It's just a big brother thing. His grip loosens, then.] This place is different, that's for sure. But different or not, I know you'll be fine. We'll both be fine.
[action]
No one keeps a Redfield down. [ with some distance, now, she can study his face. and wonder at how he's been before he was here and fine. but she doesn't dare ask. not outright. not yet. perhaps not at all. even before her years with terra save, she'd learned that you can't simply press individuals like chris for their latest troubles and traumas. ] S-sorry. Here we are, standing in everyone's road. Come sit with me?
[ as if she had to ask. ]
[action]
Already planning on it. I'm sure they'll appreciate it if we get out of their way.
[Definitely no need to ask. He'll wait for her to take the lead and follow her back to her table. In the meantime, though...]
Did you just get here, too?
[action]
[ she touches the sheathed knife on her shoulder. presumably, she has something else holstered under her jacket by now as well. weapons procurement had come first.
claire points a cheeky finger-gun at the chair across the table, inviting him to sit. ]
[action]
Don't worry about it. You did the right thing. [Claire certainly knew how to take care of herself, alright. Her ability to adapt was why he was so sure she'd be okay here.] Playing meet and greet with the rest of the village wasn't exactly my first idea, either.
[action]
[ despite what she's survived, claire rarely finds herself unwilling to reach out and make friendly with the locals -- so long as those locals were alive and not attempting to eat her flesh. but this place is eerily too welcoming even by her standards. ]
[action]
[Especially after hearing about what this place was. It really isn't the kind of attitude he was expecting everyone to have. At all.]
[action]
[ she trails off with the slightest of shrugs. it isn't the kindest way one could refer to the fact that many of the town's inhabitants seem to possess strange powers, but it's the only way she knows to articulate what she could barely believe. ] At first, I thought they were because of these experiments done by the group they call the Malnosso. But now I'm not so sure.
[ claire lifts a hand to signal another member of the staff. presumably so her brother could order himself something. ]
[action]
If it's not them, that might be one less thing for us to worry about. That doesn't make it any less strange, though. Still, those people are victims just as much as we are.
[action]
[action]
There's a pause as Chris turns his attention to the waitress when she comes by again after finishing up elsewhere. As polite as ever, he only asks for water. He could probably use something a little heavier, definitely, but now's not the time for that.
After that, he turns back to Claire and continues.] If no one else could do it, I kind of doubt that we're going to be the first ones. I guess we're just going to have to do what we can. When we can.
[action]
They're fighting a war...[ she says the words but doesn't ask the question. will you be joining it? ]
[action]
[Not that it's out of boredom that he'd be doing it. It's not really his cause but if it meant keeping others safe...
There was definitely no question about what he'd do.]
[action]
[ her eyes drop to her mug and she traces its rim with her thumb's edge. ] Monsters are one thing. But...
[ chris is the one with the legitimate military background. the s.t.a.r.s. training. the firm moral compass. claire would gladly dispatch the infected and the mutated with whatever skill and strength she possessed, but fighting a war is such a separate ordeal. although these cultists hardly sounded friendly, she wonders if they were still just a little too human for her to fight.
besides, she'd joined terrasave partially so she could stop fighting and start helping. ]
