Test Flight!

the luceti test flight meme

Reserves have just opened and apps are right around the corner. But are you still on the fence about any of your would-be characters? Well -- here is your chance to take them out for a spin!

TAG IN or reply to others with characters you would like to test flight for Luceti.
ONLY add top-level comments for characters who are not yet in the game. You're free to reply to others with Luceti characters (because that's half the fun) but remember that the whole point of this meme is for potential characters.
PLEASE do not post duplicates of characters already in Luceti.
GO AHEAD and give us a brief description of your character in the top-level comment, along with one or two possible ways to run into your test-driven character around town.
YOU MAY use these threads for your first person samples on your app -- just make sure that you link threads of a goodly length (i.e., threads with at least ten comments from your character).

Need a little help getting started? Remember, you needn't post here as though your character is still brand-spankin' new. It'll probably be more fun for all involved if this isn't a simple dress rehearsal for showing up. Here are a few scenario ideas:

o1. The grocery store is out of food. What do you do?
o2. Wing injury! Call for help or stagger your way to one of our fine clinics.
o3. It's a busy evening at Good Spirits, one of Luceti's local bars. Do you dare try the drink specials?
o4. Have a talent for playing music? Try Cloud Nine's open mic night!
o5. Beach party? Snow party? Leaf-raking party? Gardening party? YOU DECIDE.

Okay. So my examples are pretty non-exciting. But they're really just suggestions. I'm POSITIVE you kids can come up with more creative things.

Above all? HAVE FUN. Oh. And don't forget to RESERVE your characters.

[The wings were strange to get used to, but Nel was trying to adjust as quickly as possible. It still made her angry and sad that her return to Aquaria wasn't something she could just make happen. That it would be random and that was if she was lucky.

She was wandering the village, stripped muffler hiding her face, when she saw the sign for a bar. Surely a drink couldn't hurt, right? It wasn't as if she was on duty, and Clair wasn't there to nag her to stop.

So, with a bit of a smile, Nel wandered into Seventh Heaven to give it a try.]

I.

[Being trapped on an alien planet isn't exactly an excuse to take a vacation. If anything, it's the total opposite. Which is why, most mornings, Kate can be found at the battle dome. Sometimes, she's working on her archery skills. Other times, it's fencing against a programmed opponent. Or, at least, it starts out as fencing. But even after losing the épée, she doesn't give up the fight. All those kickboxing lessons really do come in handy. And not just when she's playing superhero.]

II.

[While there's not much to do in this one-horse town, at least Friday nights at Cloud Nine seem interesting enough. It's not the same thrill as going out clubbing in the City, but the music has a decent enough beat. And dancing is a great way to pass the time.

Anyone care to join her?]

[The brief glimpse of that familiar muffler and bob of brilliant red hair was the only clue that Cliff needed. After spending weeks with her on the road, travelling from the frigid mountains of Aeriglyph to the green plains of Aquaria, he liked to think that he had become familiar enough with the woman to identify her when she was being discreet.

At least, in Luceti, neither of them were too conspicuous.

Cliff pulled up a chair next to her at the bar without greeting or invitation and grinned.]

Yo. We were wondering when you'd show up.

I.
[A distressed looking older man with greyed hair and wearing a beige sweater (with wings to match) is standing in front of the candy section at the grocery store. Something is missing and it is aggravating him to no end.]

But where are they?! Any proper store should always stock them! This is unacceptable! I must speak to the management!

II.
[The same old man is later much happier and is standing at the fountain with a cardboard box in front of him. He has a wide array of medical tools on said box and beside them is a big sign that reads:]

WANTED: TEST SUBJECTS WITH THE COURAGE TO BE PIONEERS

[He calls out to people every so often - especially those with strangely coloured wings.]

Excuse me! Yes! Yes, you with the funny wings. Hello, my name is Walter Bishop and I'm a fellow prisoner here with you. May I ask you a question?
crimsonblade: (Idiots.)

[personal profile] crimsonblade 2013-06-17 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
[She doesn't bothered to hide the smile that seeing the familiar blond brings to her face. He's a welcome sight after the last few days of traveling around this village, keeping to the shadows like the spy she is.]

Well, I didn't know you were here, or I would have found you sooner. Can I assume that Fayt's here too then?
aerialassault: (sly -- is that so?)

[personal profile] aerialassault 2013-06-17 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
What, the rumors of walls breaking didn't clue you in?

[He shook his head. Seriously, it was broadcast over the journals and everything-- but no, he wasn't ashamed of it.]

Yeah. Fayt's here too, for better or for worse. If you ask me, I'd say he's adapted pretty well too.

[ She'd turned her back for five minutes and Walter had somehow managed to disappear. Olivia felt a headache coming on along with a sincere wish for Peter or Astrid to show up.

Finding him was easier than she'd expected, although she stopped and stared for several moments before she moved to take the sign down.
]

Walter, we've talked about this. You can't experiment on the other residents.
crimsonblade: (Really I'm a ninja. Yep.)

[personal profile] crimsonblade 2013-06-17 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't heard any rumors, to be honest. The book that I woke up with next to me is still in my bag, after three days. I'm not...A part of me is just trying to process that it's real and that I won't wake up home, you know?

[The bartender comes over and she orders a shot of bourbon.]

He's a good kid, so I'm not surprised.

A:

Eleanor was sitting by the fountain in the center of town, in a white blouse and black skirt, her legs folded beneath her and her fancy magic notebook resting on the ground beside her. On the other side is a mostly-flat steampunk-esque diving suit, made mostly of heavy fabric and leather, with a metal framework including an oxygen tank and neck brace sitting on top of it. Eleanor has the helmet part in her lap, flipped over, and her attempt appears to be focused inside it, where she is tinkering with the internal radio with a screwdriver she found.

she glances over at her notebook, keeping tabs of what is going on, but otherwise was content to work on whatever she was working on. 'Content' apparently meant cursing at the little device from time to time, her wings fluttering behind her in irritation.

B:

It was around dusk when she could be found in the edge of town, in a clearing she hoped was out of the way. Dressed much the same as earlier, her things are folded neatly nearby as her attention focuses mostly on a dead tree that someone was probably bound to cut down eventually. She had been here for a few days, and she couldn't quite seem to get a handle on precisely how her arrival had altered her powers.

So she was experimenting with them. She held up her hand and it burst into life, flames crackling around her fingers, filling the air with the faint smell of smoldering flesh before she launched the fireball at the dead tree. It was smaller and weaker than she was used to, and actually vanished before it even reached the bark, making her frown.

A few steps forward and she tried again, this time the fireball hit the tree, and the flames caught. She seemed satisfied, and the heat around her fingers vanished, replaced by a faint shimmer in the air. She threw her hand out again, and a wave of telekinesis smacked into the tree, knocking the air away long enough to blow the fire out.

Okay. At least that one was sort of working...

Why, Agent Dunham! It's so wonderful to see you. [Even if he just saw her about five minutes ago when he left to go set up this call for experiment subjects. He smiles wide at her and motions to his instruments.]

The experiments won't be very invasive. Just a few samples to test their biological composition. It's a small price to pay for knowledge, don't you think?
universal_bridge: (pic#6347078)

[personal profile] universal_bridge 2013-06-17 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
...Walter, we need to pack your things up so you can take them home, alright. We can find other things to experiment on that are more interesting than people.

[ Plants...wildlife, anything else really ]

I'm sure you can think of plenty of things we can do. [ That don't involve surgical procedures on live people]
unfringed: (fear unnamed)

[personal profile] unfringed 2013-06-17 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
[And now he's suddenly agitated, motioning to the instruments with greater fervour.]

But Olivia, I need to understand this. There is no greater puzzle than this!

We need to get home. I have to get back. To my lab. To find out why you can't cross over. Why we've come here.

[I have to get home to Peter.]
universal_bridge: (pic#6347080)

[personal profile] universal_bridge 2013-06-17 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
I know we need to get home, but I don't think there's a physiological reason for why we can't return to Boston.

This world is different but we should try without actively interfering in the health of other residents, Walter.

We're going to get home somehow.

[ He's not the only one with family back there.]

For now though, let's just go back to the house and we'll look into other options.
unfringed: (puzzled tinkertoys)

[personal profile] unfringed 2013-06-17 05:45 am (UTC)(link)
[But if there isn't a physiological reason, then why? Metaphysical? Something else?

So--

It must be something else.

Walter looks down at his makeshift box and frowns.
]

I wouldn't be interfering in their health - it would be a simple non-invasive surgery. Tissue samples, a feather or two. Nothing so terrible.

[Unless he found something. Then he'd want to see inside their minds, pore over their genetic structure. He knows this. He knows it, but he can't help it.]

But...yes, you're right. We should get back to the house. I think the drugs are wearing off. Their auras aren't as bright anymore.
universal_bridge: (pic#6347080)

[personal profile] universal_bridge 2013-06-17 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
We could probably come up with a questionnaire and ask if they'd mind donating a feather or two for your research but I really don't think anyone is going to agree to having tissue samples taken.

[ Well he's at least coming along with her. ]

Why don't you let me ask the clinic if they have some blood samples or something for you, okay?

[personal profile] ablankpage 2013-06-17 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
[Robert can't help but stop at the sign. The question makes his wings -- a very vibrant teal he usually hides -- flick in irritation. He has been trying (very unsuccessfully) to dye them.]

Yes, sir?
unfringed: (full of wonder)

[personal profile] unfringed 2013-06-17 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
Oh! Blood samples!

[Yes, that's an excellent idea! He'd prefer them to be fresh, but he can make due with older samples, too.]

Yes, ask the clinics - both of them - for samples from whatever residents have given them. I'll ask Asterick to create a survey and soon we'll have a good basis for the beginning of our research.
unfringed: (rather pleased)

[personal profile] unfringed 2013-06-17 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
[Ooh, teal! Now that is an interesting colour. Not often seen in nature, certainly and not on this size of bird. Walter walks around behind Robert and studies the shade.]

Would you mind if I took a sample of your plummage?
ablankpage: (Together)

[personal profile] ablankpage 2013-06-17 06:03 am (UTC)(link)
[The Malnosso have a sick sense of humour, as far as Robert's concerned. They coordinated his wings... with his eyes. They couldn't, of course, match it to his hair -- which might be manageable -- or to the neutral, sepia colours he prefers, no. That would have made the things bearable, after all.

One brow quirks a bit.]

What do you intend to use it for?
universal_bridge: (pic#6347077)

[personal profile] universal_bridge 2013-06-17 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
I'll ask them sometime tomorrow.

[ There's the slightest pause in her footsteps before she catches up to him again ]

Walter, you do remember Astrid isn't here, right?

I. Good Spirits!
[He's not in a mood tonight, nor is he having a bad time. He's just bored and it's pretty obvious in the way he's treating his whiskey. Normally he'll drink beer because that's all he can afford to drink but hey -- it's free here. He'll drink whatever he wants.

He just wishes there was something to do right now.]

II. Open Mic Night!
[If you asked him how he'd gotten wrangled into this Booker wouldn't be able to give you a straight answer. All he can really say with certainty is that it was not his idea to come up on this stage and be blinded by lights while plucking out tunes on a guitar someone put in his hands.

This is most likely Elizabeth's fault.

He doesn't quite know what to do with himself after it's over so he just....wanders off the stage trying to find a drink.]

unfringed: (this is so exciting)

[personal profile] unfringed 2013-06-17 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
Why for science of course!

[He motions to the box with his instruments and the sign.]

I'm investigating the fringe event that has brought us all here. It's my speciality.
unfringed: (there is hope)

[personal profile] unfringed 2013-06-17 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
[His excitement dies down a little and he smiles faintly.]

....Yes, of course. I remember. She isn't here now.

[Then it jumps again.]

Oh, but what if she appears? With how strange this location is, it's possible she will.

[personal profile] exhumanity 2013-06-17 06:16 am (UTC)(link)
[ God, it's green here. Funny how the apocalypse kind of makes you forget the world was colorful once. It's half the reason he sticks to the forest for the most part. The other half has something to do with the fact that he's a zombie, and as such, probably isn't going to be making friends out of the locals anytime soon. Even if everyone came back from the dead here, coming back from the dead to only be dead again seemed like a real shitty deal.

That doesn't stop him from shambling through the village proper entirely, however. R finds his way into the following places:

a: The item shop, where he looks through assorted vinyl records. He's a purist.
b: The rec center. Any idea how long it's been since he played pinball? He doesn't actually remember. He's not even sure he likes pinball. Plus, his reflexes are kind too slow to have much success. Still. Better than nothing.
c: Milling aimlessly around the playgro - no, wait, that's creepy, dude. Mill around the northern part of town and the forest instead. ]

[Meanwhile, the guy sitting next to him? Is enjoying the peace and quiet. Nothing to do? He is so okay with that. And drinking? Good way to enjoy the downtime.

The drink that comes to him is served in a martini glass and is a pale yellow in color. He takes the glass up and sips it. Not too bad, if he says so himself. At least they can make drinks here. Never know about the quality when they're offered for free, after all.]
