[Shu was walking around Luceti while gathering his thoughts. He was rather stressed out because of things that were going on in his original world.

How should he lead? Should he be like Gai and use other people to accomplish his goals? Or should he try to do things his own way? Shu found himself at a loss of what to do. He wasn't decisive or brave and he found himself being unfit to lead. Shu's distress was quite clear on his expression. He wanted someone to talk to so he could take his mind off of this. ]

Excuse me? Do you have a moment? Can we talk? You don't mind do you?

[He wasn't saying this to anyone in particular. If someone just stopped to listen to him talk for a moment he would feel grateful.]

[Gai being Gai, he's not going to just walk up to Shu and announce his presence, not until he assesses the situation a bit more. From what he can see, Shu seems to be his usual self, which isn't really saying much at all. He has no idea what point in time the other boy is from... a factor that could change a lot of things.

But as usual, Shu is being anything but helpful and is just walking around being socially awkward. (Although to be honest, he's not sure why he expected something different.) Time for him to make the first move, as always.]

You still haven't figured anything out yet?

[Gai's sudden appearance startles Shu. He's in shock because Gai's supposedly dead. He frowns momentarily and then immediately starts to feel uneasy.]

Forget about that, Gai. What are you doing here? Why are you alive?

[Sigh. Always having to explain things to Shu, as usual. At least some things never change.]

This world can bring people here even after their deaths. I'm only alive because it wants me to be, for whatever reason.

["For whatever reason" isn't a good enough of an answer for Shu. They went through so much trouble to save Mana only for things to end this way? Shu can't accept this. It's wrong for the dead to come back. Gai still manages to frustrate Shu without fail.]

That's all you can say for yourself? What about Mana? Did she also come back the same way you did? [If Gai answers with yes than that's the worst thing that can possibly happen right now.]

Mana isn't here.

[That's really the only answer he can give. There's no guarantee that she won't be brought here at some point in the future. He's not going to lie to Shu, but he's not going to tell him the entire truth either.]

And Inori? Is it just you?

[That's relieving news to Shu. He's still concerning himself with Inori's safety. Shu's eyes narrow as he says Inori's name because he's not really expecting Gai to confirm that she actually is here.]

Give your answers to me straight. I want to know.

It's just me.

[Gai matches Shu's glare with one of his own, an expression that practically dares the other boy to challenge the truthfulness of his statement. No, he really is the only one here... or was.]

I've been alone here for more than a year now.

That can't be! You died just recently. I remember because Ayase was so tormented by your death!

Don't just say things like that at me without explaining. I have enough to worry about as it is. [Shu gives up on glaring and lets out a hefty sigh. He doesn't feel like arguing with Gai after he says that he's been alone for over a year.]

[You see this look, Shu? This is the look you're getting right now, because you're still dumb.]

Time doesn't pass here at the same rate it does in our worlds. It may have been recently for you, but for me it's been nearly a year and a half. I'll be nineteen in a few more months.

[He sees that look! It doesn't impress him because he thinks Gai's trying to look down on him.]

If only everyone back at Funeral Parlor knew you were doing well here. [Funeral Parlor's so lost without Gai.] Do you know what I've been doing in our world? The students at Tennozu elected me to be the Student Council President. There's no way I can take on that responsibility and make everyone happy.

[Gai, meanwhile, isn't looking very impressed either. If that was what Shu was going for by telling him about his little Student Council President gig, it didn't work.

... but what Shu doesn't know is that Gai knows all about this and what eventually ends up happening as a result. And he is NOT going to let on that he knows, so instead he'll play dumb. In a very obnoxious way.]

You're worrying yourself sick over a Student Council position? Pathetic. It can't be that hard to make a bunch of high school students happy.

[Gai's obnoxiousness only gives Shu more distress. He clutches his face and lowers his head at the thought of it being easy to lead high school students. It wasn't that simple, at least to Shu.]

This isn't going to work. I'm not fit to lead. I'm the last one who should be giving out orders and telling everyone what to do.

What can I possibly do to make sure that everyone gets past the red line safely? It keeps closing in and at this rate we aren't going to make it. I have to do something. I have to get stronger, Gai. I easily lose my composure and I always say what other people want to hear. What good does that do? Nothing.

It makes me seem so weak and unsuited for this job. A leader shouldn't always agree to what others have to say.

Maybe it's because I don't want to upset other people or make them feel bad by saying no.

You said that I could become you whenever I wanted to, so why? Why can't I make any progress?

You just explained why yourself. You're too concerned about what other people might think of your actions, and as a result, you try do take whatever path will upset the fewest people instead of doing what needs to be done.

Trying to please everyone will only end in you pleasing no one. That's one of the first things a leader has to learn. If you can't do that, then you really aren't fit to lead.

In that case...is it better to go through with what Yahiro said? Can I really implement the void ranking system without making people feel bad?

[His other option is to rank people using their voids and he's not even sure if he wants to go through with that either.]

Someone will get angry if I decide to go along with this. [Shu doesn't want people to hate him. It's pretty obvious.]

Someone will get angry no matter what you do. The question is, are you going to let yourself be paralyzed by that fear, or will you step up and act in everyone's best interests?

[He learned long ago that you can't care too much about people disagreeing with you or nothing will ever get done.]

By best interests, do you mean discriminating against people using a system?

[Shu hasn't learned that lesson like Gai has. He has issues with this and he's making sure Gai knows.]

Sure. What is it? [Here's a teen monk eager to help newcomers.]

[Anything to keep his mind off his problems.]

Sorry to ask you for such a huge favor.

[Don't mind him, Shu. Cross'll just immediately swing and hang upside down from the tree he was in when he thinks you're talking to him. You were just walking by after all. ]

Hm? Yeah sure. What'd ya need?

[Shu's momentarily stunned because a guy just appeared out a tree.

Although, Shu eventually realizes that it's rude to be so surprised by a guy who's offering to help out so he quickly changes his expression. Instead of looking so stunned Shu smiles instead.]

Oh, I was wondering if you could show me around Luceti for a while. I'd feel bad for making you do it so you don't have to.

It's just that...[How does he word this? At times like this he wishes that he weren't so socially awkward.]

Not everything has been going well in my world. There's too many problems there and I'm actually lucky to be here. [Shu's trying to be brutally honest about this. He thinks that he won't get anywhere if he lies after all.]

I want to take a look around while I can.

[Have no fear, Shu. Cross'll counter that social awkwardness with uh...socialness!

He's not too surprised by the stunned look. In fact, it was kind of the reaction he was hoping for. The request isn't much of a bother either, in fact, it gets a grin out of the brunette here.]

Hm? Sure thing, man. I was getting kind of bored hanging upside down for hours anyways.

[and he'll just leap out of the tree back onto his feet. As for this boy's problems...]

If you want to talk about what's going on while I show you around, that's cool. I mean, it can suck dealing with stuff on your own. Especially if you're alone here.

[Does Cross normally spend that much time in trees? Shu's starting to wonder about his hobbies.]

What were you doing in a tree anyways? Do you mind if I ask?

[He's getting curious now.]

I appreciate what you're doing. We haven't exchanged name's have we? [Shu offers Cross a friendly handshake.] I'm Shu Ouma.

[The question just makes the boy ponder for a moment. He places a hand to his chin, looking as if he were in deep thought. It only takes a second to figure out the answer.]

Mostly bored. Didn't feel like reading so I thought I'd hang out in a tree for a bit and look out at the village. Then just sitting up there got boring so I decided to hang upside down.

[The offer of a handshake just makes his grin broader. Unintentionally he'll take Shu's hand with his metal prosthetic hand. Still putting forth all his cheerfulness.]
It's no problem really. Helping out and stuff is kind of my thing.

It's still nice to meet you, Shu. My name's Cross Blanchard.

[Well that seemed like a perfectly normal response to Shu.]

Did you notice anything strange while you were looking at the village? [He's completely aware of the fact that Luceti's no normal village at least.]

It's a pleasure to meet you too. [Shu definitely notices Cross's prosthetic hand. He figures that's impolite to inquire about it seeing as how they just met. For now he'll just keep his curiosity to himself.]

Other than the usual scenery? Not much sadly. Unless this an experiment and they altered our perception again...than I really wouldn't notice anything different.

[These are obvious comforting things to newbies, obviously.

Okay, it was time to play up the energy! Guides always needed to be full of energy! And he wanted to give Shu the best tour of his life.]

Okay, 'nough talking! Where shall we begin our tour of the somewhat wondrous, Luceti? Battledome? Lake? Welcome center? Your pick.

[Hearing about experiments frightens Shu a bit. He doesn't necessarily show his fear on his face though. It might be hard for Cross to notice it immediately. ]

Can you normally tell when you're being experimented on?

[Shu gets lost in his own thoughts until Cross speaks up again.]

They had a Battledome here? That sounds dangerous. Let's go with something more friendly? Maybe a lake?

[There's very few cues Cross can pick up on in this case. The only thing that seems odd is Shu going silent for a few moments. However, experiments were never a pleasant experience, at least for the most part.]

Sometimes. They do weird things as much as they do scary things. One time, whenever I sneezed, I made things into candy.

And the Battledome isn't as dangerous as it sounds. Just a place to train all. Totally non-lethal! But, sure. Lake's pretty good spot to start with...It'll take a couple hours though.

That's fine. [He nods and smiles in response to that.]

We should get going soon, shouldn't we? I'm not in a hurry or anything like that. It's just that I'd prefer to get there before nightfall.

Of course I did. Who wouldn't? The Molasses are a bunch of jerks that need a good punch in the face. [lowly he grumbles:]My beautiful arm was turned into candy for a whole week...

Ah, right! Okay! Just follow me! We shouldn't get lost...! I think.

[Hopefully, his sense of direction has improved since last time.]

They might need more than a punch in the face and I'm not sure.

[He pauses for a moment, thinking about it.]

Or not. [He immediately drops that thought.]

[Yup dropping it now. And then there's a name that's dropped that sounds somewhat familiar.]
Wait a sec, hold the phone. Gai? Are you talkin' about that blond jerk that hangs around the village?

['Cause that's more important now.]

Oh, uh, yeah. Totally! Guess if we just smoosh our brains metaphorically together we won't get lost.

Well, Ya know...this and that...and this.[Pause.]

I can navigate the village pretty good.

There's only one who'd...[So how does Cross know Gai? That's impossible. Shu killed Gai himself.]

Are you trying to tell me he's here? The Gai I know is pushy and rude and he does whatever he wants. It can't be the same Gai.

[Nope. It must be some different Gai with the same name.]

Let's go with your way then. [Shu doesn't even completely trust Cross's methods yet. He's just saying that because he doesn't want to be rude and say no.]

If you know him, then yeah I am. Sounds exactly like the person I talked to awhile back. A lot, a lot like him.

[Anyways, he'll shrug it off.]

Aaaand even if we do get lost we can call it a camping trip.

[And off he goes. Marching ahead.]

But, what would Gai be doing here? [He sounds tense. After all, if Gai's here then that means that Shu will have to talk with him eventually. ]

[Shu can't be as easy going as Cross! He's not okay with this idea.]

Get serious, it's not safe to go camping out in the middle of no where. There's too much risk involved and you'd just be leaving yourself wide open to possible danger. Aren't you concerned?

I dunno, what are any of us doing here? This place takes anybody from anywhere.

[He takes note of the tension, but is unsure of why it's there to begin with. At Shu's question, he frowns mentally. He'd rather not get into it. Especially with a newbie.]

We just had a uh...difference of opinions. [If not bombing cultists vs bombing them wasn't different enough.

Cross just shrugs a bit at Shu's line of logic.]

Way I see it, we're completely safe. The only thing out in the forest is wild animals and none of them really get close. 'sides even if it were an animal I could take it. And if a person? Still could take them.

[If they didn't have powers...

If you don't want to go it's fine with me. Far be it from me to push you into something that makes you uncomfortable.

That's normal for him. [Gai used to get into arguments constantly. Shu dismisses it as something that's not important.]

Gai had a thing for getting into trouble and starting arguments left and right. It was normal for him back in our world. I can't believe he's up to no good again.

[When Cross words it that way Shu can't help but feel bad.]

Thanks for understanding. I'm not used to this sort of thing, really. I'd be too worried to be able to go to bed at night.

[and then he turns to Shu at the realization:]

Hold on a sec! Are you saying this Gai you know may be dead where you're from?

[After all, why ask a question like that? Oh and he's asking more questions with questions.]

If they are the same person, they need a good smack in the face.

[And then there's a shrug.]

It's cool. First experience in a whole new world can be a bit jarring.
