[The former Knight captain just stares at the controls of the battle dome, wondering what buttons do what for this training facility. That's all he's heard about this place. Supposedly, there was a way to make it appear like anything he wanted with a few taps of the buttons so that he could train.

He wasn't Pascal though, and the contraption was slowly wearing away at his patience. Not that he was letting it show. After traveling with both Pascal and Hubert and teaching for nearly fifteen years at the academy in Barona, he'd learned how to channel that into something constructive. So, if he hit a button a little too hard, that didn't mean anything.

How is this supposed to be used properly? I was hoping to have a training session in this facility. The machinery isn't as user-friendly as I was led to believe.

I've heard much about the barracks, but I haven't been there yet. What are the facilities like?

Well... It's about what you'd expect there, I guess? It's not as nice as the barracks at the Academy, but all the usual stuff is there.

[Malik strikes up a thinking pose.]

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. The Academy was very well equipped and if there was anything that we needed, the king didn't make us wait to get it.

Yeah... Looking back, we really had it made there, huh...

It was better equipped than the training facility in Fendel when I was coming up the ranks. Of course, that's changed now, I suppose.

[Jade saunters up, hands in his pockets. The stranger is curious to him - and beyond that, helping him will mean that he'll get his turn at the simulation console quicker.]

Do be careful with your words. We wouldn't want to hurt the machine's feelings, after all. [He says sarcastically and smirks as he draws near.]

[Malik turns at the stranger's voice. He knows when he's up against someone who could be a potential friend and deadly enemy. He looks him carefully over before deeming him a non-threat, for the moment.]

You sound like someone I know.

[From beside Malik, Hubert nods in agreement.]

It's a little tricky, to be sure -- I still don't fully understand it myself. But I can manage the basics. What were you thinking of?

[Malik looks at the Strantan lieutenant at his side and isn't really surprised that he feels relief. The younger man was much more capable with the machinery in this strange world than he was.]

Are you familiar with Wallbridge?

Familiar enough. [It's a major Windorian stronghold, so the Strahtan military certainly has some intel on it.] However, I haven't ever used it as a simulated environment here.

[Hello Malik, have a sudden Richard peering over your shoulder at the console. Not that he's much better at programming this thing, but shhh. He usually just uses the simulations that other people have already made.]

I'd heard of people losing their edge in their old age, but to see it happening right in front of my eyes... it truly is a tragedy.

No, it's not that we've had the opportunity to face one another. I'm sure that I'd remember that.

[He might be a man in his early forties, but there was nothing wrong with Malik's mind, thank you very much.]

I know someone who takes equal pleasure in being as annoying as possible.

[He'd suspected as much. Even the Fendel army had heard of the fortress and how it operated before he'd come to Windor.]

I've been inside it, so I was interested in possibly using it as a way to train. Although, your brother and King Richard had to fight their way through it. Perhaps I should ask for their input before trying to set it up to simulate the environment.

[The former knight captain raised an eyebrow as he turned to look at the Windorian ruler.]

Please forgive me for slowly approaching my dotage, Your Highness. Perhaps you'd be willing to set up an acceptable simulation that we can then both share. Since I'm too old to get it correct.

Are you sure your bones can handle it? I would hate to be responsible for any harm that came to you as a result. It wouldn't do for a grandchild to neglect the well-being of his elders, after all.

[He's all smiles as he says this, of course.]

Prior knowledge of a location isn't strictly necessary to recreate it in a simulation, as I'm given to understand. It's simply a matter of navigating the menu correctly.

[As a demonstration, he swipes through a few screens on the control panel and successfully sets up Wallbridge as the desired location for a simulation.]

[Not one to back down from a challenge, Malik smirks as he grabs the handle of his bladerang.]

Would you like to make a wager over who can defeat the most enemies then? Loser explains to Asbel what happened today.

[He watches as the younger man deftly handles the machinery to bring up a very decent simulation of the Windorian fortess. He's impressed, to be honest, but he expected no less from the Strahtan lieutenant.]

That's comforting to know. Perhaps next time I can put in the Snow Fields as a training exercise. As such, this is perfect for now.

[He can't help but feel a bit of excitement at the thought of being able to stretch and fight with his all.]

Would you care to join me? Or are you still occupied by the books in the library of this place?

I came here for training anyway, so I have no issues with joining you for a few bouts.

[After working through a few more details, Hubert completes the simulation set up. He nods at a nearby door, which has a flashing light next to it.]

That will be our simulation chamber for this round. I've set the duration for fifteen minutes, but there is always the option to extend it afterwards as long as no one else is waiting to use a room.
