Test Flight Meme

the luceti test flight meme

Reserves are open and apps are right around the corner. But are you still on the fence about any of your would-be characters? Well -- here is your chance to take them out for a spin!

TAG IN or reply to others with characters you would like to test flight for Luceti.
ONLY add top-level comments for characters who are not yet in the game. You're free to reply to others with Luceti characters (because that's half the fun) but remember that the whole point of this meme is for potential characters.
PLEASE do not post duplicates of characters already in Luceti.
GO AHEAD and give us a brief description of your character in the top-level comment, along with one or two possible ways to run into your test-driven character around town.
YOU MAY use these threads for your first person samples on your app -- just make sure that you link threads of a goodly length (i.e., threads with at least ten comments from your character).

Need a little help getting started? Remember, you needn't post here as though your character is still brand-spankin' new. It'll probably be more fun for all involved if this isn't a simple dress rehearsal for showing up. Here are a few scenario ideas:

o1. The grocery store is out of food. What do you do?
o2. Wing injury! Call for help or stagger your way to one of our fine clinics.
o3. It's a busy evening at Good Spirits, one of Luceti's local bars. Do you dare try the drink specials?
o4. Have a talent for playing music? Try Cloud Nine's open mic night!
o5. Beach party? Snow party? Leaf-raking party? Gardening party? YOU DECIDE.

Okay. So my examples are pretty non-exciting. But they're really just suggestions. I'm POSITIVE you kids can come up with more creative things.

Above all? HAVE FUN. Oh. And don't forget to RESERVE your characters.

[Not a lot of food, mean police, trying to get by and survive, those are things Rue can relate to. There wasn't much crime in District 11, but that was because anyone caught was punished or executed in front of everyone.]

There wasn't much food in District 11 either, and the Peacekeepers - um, police I guess - weren't very nice too. They were strict and made sure everyone was working. I saw the sky lots working out in the orchards and fields. [She smiles, her expression wavering between pride and sadness.] I was the best climber too.

There were... [She stops and swallows. Talking about things were good and they weren't really a secret, not with how much everyone else mentioned them.] There were games too. The annual Hunger Games.

me too, it's great

There's places like that at home, too, where people work on farms. [Not that Farlan knows much about that. The slums are insular, isolated, and now he's in the Survey Corps, which is insular in a different way. He hasn't exactly gotten a tour of the farmland.] There's not enough space for everyone, and some people get--thrown away.

[People in the slum are basically considered disposable trash by the people in the capital, as Farlan sees it. Farlan's still surprised he got out--although he can't say he enjoyed being conscripted into the army, either.

He smiles a bit in response to Rue's smile, remembering he probably shouldn't be too grim with a kid.
]

I bet--you sure climb better than anyone else I've ever seen.

Hunger Games? What's that?

They're... [Rue's voice grows quiet, stilted as she repeats the words drilled into her mind since she was a child. The words known by every child unfortunate enough to be born in the districts of Panem.]

Once a year, each district will draw from a pool of twelve to eighteen year olds a boy tribute and a girl tribute. The twenty-four tributes shall enter the arena until one remains victorious. Those are the Hunger Games.

Tributes? What kind of game is that?

[It all sounds suspicious and unsavory to Farlan, who's wary of people in power as it is. Most of the authority figures he's known have been violent and unpleasant. Except Levi, but he chose to follow Levi.]

So--what happens to the losers?

[He's already expecting to hear the worst, honestly. People kill each other for food back home all the time, but it's not a game.]

It's by order of the Capitol, a reminder and punishment of our uprising.

[Her words are flat, detached, but there's anger underneath. She's had enough time away from Panem to know it's okay to talk about the games, about the Capitol. Even if it's a different sort of game in Luceti, the Malnosso don't care. Much.]

You fight to the death in the arena. There can be only one victor.

They make kids fight to the death?

[It's true that he's a criminal himself, but that's what he had to do to survive. It wasn't his intention to hurt people, even though he had, when he had to. So the idea of people fighting and dying for someone's entertainment repulses him.]

That's sick.

[He only wishes he was more surprised. It's not like he has a lot of faith in his own ruling class. With too many people and not enough food to go around, it's only a matter of time before something gives.]

Sounds like you were right to rebel.

It's all recorded too. Everyone has to watch. In the Capitol, they make bets.

[On who will win, who will die first, the environment, the traps, there are always bets and always profit to be made on the deaths of children.]

The first rebellion was 74 years ago. Seventy-four Hunger Games. [Seventy-four games. 1702 children dead for the sake of entertainment and keeping the Districts at bay. But it was only a matter of time before everyone revolted.]

But I heard there was another rebellion. It went better.

Recorded? Like...?

[As video cameras don't make any sense to him, he struggles to conceive of it, but at least being here has given him something to relate it to.]

Like you can show pictures, here? They make people watch that? [He's not sure which is worse: people being forced to watch, or people wanting to watch and making bets.] Why--why would anyone want to?

[It's horrible. Sure, the people in the slums have been left there to starve and die, but it's not as if people are watching them and betting on who dies first.]

Seventy...four?

[He shakes his head in disbelief, not because he doesn't believe her, but, because it's hard to picture, to fathom. What's wrong with people?]

Good. Nobody should have to put up with that. I hope it's all over now. I wish we'd have a revolution, at home.

[Not that he exactly wants to deal with what a revolution entails, but still...]
