[Everyone might be nice here that he could tell, but he's never gonna be entirely comfortable living in a place without his own special brand of protection around it.
The shops thankfully have what he needs and he sets himself up near the fountain in the square, a multitude of coloured threads wrapped around his fingers in some kind of pattern only understood to himself.
Every so often he pauses and lets a dab of power run through them, weaving the spell along with the threads.]

Was there an arts an' crafts fair an' no one told me?
no subject
Yup. Bought out the whole yarn section.
no subject
[Seriously, dude. What.]
no subject
Please, do I look that old?
It's a security system.
no subject
[And an arch of the eyebrows.]
Your security system looks like a friendship bracelet.
[Just. You know. Saying.]
no subject
Well, aren't you a charmer?
No-one ever expects the friendship bracelets. I mean, you go around wearing something sleek and metallic with flashing red lights and they tend to guess.
no subject
[This is a lie. FYI. She even emphasizes it with a roll of her eyes.]
An' if you were goin' around wearing something sleek and metallic with flashin' red lights, I'd wonder which prison truck you escaped from. So. [A quick grin.] Point.
no subject
[He leans back, relaxing and giving her an easy smile.]
Hey, my record is spotless. That amulet was obtained through entirely legal means.
[He holds out his hand.]
Max.
no subject
I shake your hand, your friendship bracelet's not gonna snake out an' bite me, is it?
no subject
Wasn't planning on it. Why, is that a thing that yarn normally does here?
no subject
[She extends her gloved hand and takes his.]
It never hurts ta check.
no subject
[He gives her hand a firm shake.]
It's a shield. Saves me from having to hold one active the whole time. The rest is for my apartment.

[If they were back home, Rogue would think you were full of it. As it is, Rogue only thinks you're about twenty percent full of it. Habit, you know.]
no subject
[He is so full of it Rogue. He knows exactly how good he is at what he does.]
no subject
Though possession... that drew her face into sober, guarded lines.]
I can think of a few things... [She shook her head.] But not many.
no subject
I try to avoid things worse than that. Sometimes they wind up on my doorstep though.
[And oh he hopes Brendan is okay.]
no subject
[At least it seems to be hers.]

Don't ya think you should buy me dinner before ya start tellin' me your life history?

[He snorts softly, goodnaturedly.]
...Appreciate the offer, but I think I'll stick with my jacket.

[Max grins and twists a complicated knot which glows faintly for a moment.]
Can you think of anything terrifying? I need an idea.
no subject
...Never knew glow-in-the-dark sweaters were a thing. Learn something new every day.
[As for the question:]
Sure you don't need me to figure something out - aren't you the creative one?
[He can think of a number of terrifying things, thanks, but doesn't really understand what this is for.]
no subject
[He's grinning but it's difficult to tell whether he's joking or not.]
I can always use a little outside input. Keeps things fresh.
no subject
I'll tell you what's terrifying. Forgetting where you parked your car in a jammed parking lot larger than a football field.
[Some would argue that's more annoying as fuck than anything else, but anyway, it's not his intentions to go grim on this guy with war stories, and right from the start.]
no subject
[If he really needed to distract someone for a while while he made a getaway.]
I was thinking more the creeping horror kind of thing but... it has potential.

From what I can tell, this place seems pretty safe for the most part when the Malnosso aren't screwing around at their control panel. [Then, with a lighter, joking tone:] Who'd you piss off?
OBLIGATORY
It wasn't until I saw him touch the threads and felt the prickle of magic that I took a second look.
"What was that?"
Re: OBLIGATORY
It's a shield. Woke up without my stuff. Thought I'd get started on weaving a new one.

It's kind of a specialty. If someone asked me to make a fireball or summon a spirit without a whole ritual, I'd probably end up unconscious.

When she gets a little closer and notices all the threads spun between his fingers, she exclaims:] Oh, my, that's so pretty!
