Reserves have just opened and apps are right around the corner. But are you still on the fence about any of your would-be characters? Well -- here is your chance to take them out for a spin!

▣ TAG IN or reply to others with characters you would like to test drive for Luceti.
▣ ONLY add top-level comments for characters who are not yet in the game. You're free to reply to others with Luceti characters (because that's half the fun) but remember that the whole point of this meme is for potential characters.
▣ PLEASE do not post duplicates of characters already in Luceti.
▣ GO AHEAD and give us a brief description of your character in the top-level comment, along with one or two possible ways to run into your test-driven character around town.
▣ YOU MAY use these threads for your first person samples on your app -- just make sure that you link threads of a goodly length (i.e., threads with at least ten comments from your character).

Need a little help getting started? Remember, you needn't post here as though your character is still brand-spankin' new. It'll probably be more fun for all involved if this isn't a simple dress rehearsal for showing up. Here are a few scenario ideas:

Okay. So my examples are pretty non-exciting. But they're really just suggestions. I'm POSITIVE you kids can come up with more creative things.

[The dwarf's face broke into a grim smile, not quite pleased at the situation, but not arguing with the hobbit. He took a seat across from Bilbo and waved to one of the servers casually.]

We may as well enjoy it while we can. [He shook his head.]

Strange place, this.

[sonofatook]

[The way Bilbo sees it, it's got to be magic. And they need a way back to the company. But first things first.]

A good meal will help us think in the meantime. [They've gotten out of some pretty tight situations before. They'll come up with something.]

[heirofdurin]

[Thorin would agree with you there, Bilbo. This must be magic, sorcery that not even Gandalf could have foreseen. However the hobbit was, of course, correct. Even as anxious as he was, he could not argue that a hot meal sounded quite appealing.]

Yes, I suppose you're right. [He eyes the ramen and the chopsticks ...dubiously.] An odd dish, that. Something local?

[sonofatook]

I haven't quite figured that out yet. Some sort of soup, I think. [Actually, it's pretty good - what little he's tasted of it so far. A warm broth, salty.]

[heirofdurin]

It would appear so, yes, but what could've possessed you to order it?

[Experimentation is...not his strong suit, particularly when it comes to foreign foods.]

And what is the purpose of those sticks? I've not seen their like before.

[sonofatook]

You eat with them. Like a spoon or fork or a knife. [It's all very proper, really. He'll be handing Thorin a napkin next.]

That's what someone told me, anyway. I haven't got the hang of it myself quite yet.

Do you now? How odd.

[Thorin eyes the sticks and shakes his head]

I think perhaps that I'll stick with what I know, Baggins. Those things seem...needlessly complex.

[sonofatook]

[Well, you know. When visiting. He feels a bit obliged to at least try to do it the right way. It wouldn't do to look uncouth. Personally, give him his dishes and good silver back at Bag-End instead.]

Try a bit of the chicken. It's been roasted very well.

[heirofdurin]

[Thorin shrugged and took a napkin, folding it into his lap. He was a prince, unlike the others in the company, and he actually did have some manners. Taking a piece of chicken, he took a bit, chewing thoughtfully.]

It has been. A good bit of spice on it too.

[sonofatook]

A bit too hot, I'd say, but it just takes some getting used to. [A better risk than goblin swords and murderous creatures in underground caverns.]

[heirofdurin]

Perhaps some honey...[Thorin muses between bites. The spice was different, pungent, and not entirely unpleasant. He could get used to these things.]

What did you say it was called, burglar?

[sonofatook]

They call them 'hot wings'. The name seems to fit, doesn't it? [It's only fair. He gets to show you his comfort zone now.]

[heirofdurin]

[He chuckles, amused. He's somewhat glad for the reprieve from the journey, all things considered. Even if he'd rather be home than here, and in the company of kith and kin instead of Men. But such it was, seeing Bilbo in his element wasn't so dreadful.]

Hot wings, you say? These look like no wings on a creature I know, but they most certainly are hot.

[sonofatook]

I wonder if we could get the cook to give us the recipe. I wouldn't mind having these at home.

[heirofdurin]

Perhaps he might. The people of this village appear quite generous. I wonder what it is they expect in return. Don't you?

[sonofatook]

[Not really. He's from the Shire. Neighborly-type kindness is to be expected.]

They say there's no money here. Fancy that after all that fuss and bother about searching for gold!

[heirofdurin]

You are far too trusting, Master Burglar, but I can hardly hold that against you Shirefolk.

[The dwarf shakes his head with a rueful smile. He'd grown fond of Bilbo on their adventure, but the truth was that this Luceti affair put him entirely on edge. It was homey now, to be sure. But what of these experiments he'd read of? And the madmen that imprisoned them? No, Bilbo was far, far too relaxed and it worried Thorin quite a lot. The hobbit was his responsibility. He was honor-bound to protect the members of his company, but as difficult as it was to admit it, without the clever little fellow he'd have been lost here and he'd come to rely on Bilbo as much as a proud dwarf could.]

But you should be mindful that nothing comes free. That is not the way of the world. Gold or no.

[sonofatook]

[Oh, he knows that much. Unless 'free' is the silver he still swears went missing when Lobelia visited.

But right now, he's thinking of the food in front of him, and the people who made it, and the people he's met in the village.]

I'll pitch in when they need it. It'll do me good to have something to do. [Aside from the lovely library.]

Yes, I suppose it will. I've been working at the forge, as expected.

[He rumbles a bit of a laugh]

I expect you might find this more to your liking though.

[sonofatook]

[Hey, he takes some pride in serving people well. Hospitality. He scraped together dinner for thirteen unexpected guests, didn't he?]

Here? I daresay I could make a go of it. As long as they showed me around the kitchen. [Though he'd meant more pitching in to help people in general.]

[heirofdurin]

I'm sure you'll manage in your natural element well enough, Baggins.

[Another rumbling laugh follows, and Thorin takes another wing.]

[sonofatook]

[He'll just meld right back with his books and his comfortable fire and his own cooking. He even finally has a pocket handkerchief again, thanks to the stores.

But he is getting carried away, isn't he?]

Look. I know... this isn't the best circumstance. We're lost away from the group, and I've had that happen before. But there's nothing to do for it right now. We may as well enjoy the good parts and fortify ourselves for a plan to get back to the company.

You're right. As...much as it pains me to admit it, for the moment it appears we have little choice but to sit and wait. I do not disagree that a chance to rest is a boon, but I would prefer not to get too comfortable.

[This is not, after all, his home. It's just another delay.]

[sonofatook]

I've heard strange things about this place outside here. I can't say I'm anxious to spend too much time, either. [But he'll try not to get separated this time, at least. And well, it's safe in here. For now.]

As have I. Winged barbarians, and wild beasts. Nothing I should like to encounter, given the choice.

[He looked out the window, eyes narrowed at the frosted glass. This little village was no safer than the place they'd left, he knew. Beneath that exterior, there was a palpable sense of menace, and he shuddered slightly.]

No, Bilbo. The more I think on this, the less and less I like our situation.
