Test Flight Meme
Reserves are open and apps are right around the corner. But are you still on the fence about any of your would-be characters? Well -- here is your chance to take them out for a spin!
▣ TAG IN or reply to others with characters you would like to test flight for Luceti.
▣ ONLY add top-level comments for characters who are not yet in the game. You're free to reply to others with Luceti characters (because that's half the fun) but remember that the whole point of this meme is for potential characters.
▣ PLEASE do not post duplicates of characters already in Luceti.
▣ GO AHEAD and give us a brief description of your character in the top-level comment, along with one or two possible ways to run into your test-driven character around town.
▣ YOU MAY use these threads for your first person samples on your app -- just make sure that you link threads of a goodly length (i.e., threads with at least ten comments from your character).
Need a little help getting started? Remember, you needn't post here as though your character is still brand-spankin' new. It'll probably be more fun for all involved if this isn't a simple dress rehearsal for showing up. Here are a few scenario ideas:
o1. The grocery store is out of food. What do you do?
o2. Wing injury! Call for help or stagger your way to one of our fine clinics.
o3. It's a busy evening at Good Spirits, one of Luceti's local bars. Do you dare try the drink specials?
o4. Have a talent for playing music? Try Cloud Nine's open mic night!
o5. Beach party? Snow party? Leaf-raking party? Gardening party? YOU DECIDE.
Okay. So my examples are pretty non-exciting. But they're really just suggestions. I'm POSITIVE you kids can come up with more creative things.
Above all? HAVE FUN. Oh. And don't forget to RESERVE your characters.
[Action]
[An exaggeration to be sure. The supposedly Great Oz was never more than a sham, hardly worth wasting the monkeys on and even the Great Glinda of the South couldn't rival this child in magical terms. This girl is truly something special, and so easily entwined by kind words, the Witch couldn't have asked for a better past-time. Yes, this child will prove quite the nice little project.
Straightening a crease in her skirt the Witch pauses a moment before speaking again.]
Do you come out here often?
[Action]
My father...? He's a mutant. ... Not a Wizard, I don't think. ... Not like me, anyway. Our powers are very different.
... I try to come out here every day I can, yes. ...Did-- you want this spot?
[Action]
Oh, no, I've just come out for a walk and to free myself from the noise and the crowd. I've never been much at ease in public. Green skin, and all that. I wouldn't dream of taking your seat away from you. But you called your father a mutant. I've never heard that strange word before. If you don't mind my terrible curiosity, what does it mean?
[Though beginning to feel a slight shortage of patience with the unhelpfulness of the politely witless girl, the Witch holds her smile in place. Foolish though the child may be, she's still a power to be reckoned with and one the Witch would rather have under her influence than against her.
[Action]
Mutants... are people who are born with an X-gene that gives them special powers. My father is one, he can control any metal around him, as well as-- manipulate magnetic fields. My brother is too. ... His mutant power makes him the fastest man alive, I think. My power... you just saw.
[Action]
[This was only a partial exaggeration. The Witch was truly intrigued by the thought of a world in which people were born to different powers based on blood. In Oz you were simply either born magical or not.]
And very kind of you to say that about my complexion.
[after a pause]
I was just thinking of heading back into town. Would you care to walk with me? Or shall I leave you to your meditations? I should very much like to know more about your remarkable family, and any of your friends you should feel worth introduction.
[The Witch gauges herself carefully now. She doesn't want to seem over eager but if she's to take this girl under her power she needs to know what allies she might have capable of complicating matters.]
no subject
My... family is mostly missing from this place. Or-- my brother and father at least. You've... learned of how time is ... weird here? Oh, god, I'm sorry; I don't even know your name. ... I'm Wanda.
[Action]
The pleasure is mine, Wanda. I am the Witch of the West; and if today's conversation is any indication you and I are to become very good friends, I hope. Shall we?
[Action]
I sometimes... go by "The Scarlet Witch." ... Are you a-- [No, no. Not 'mutant'. Different worlds called it different things.] ... Witch? Too?
Re: [Action]
Why Wanda, I am one of the best.
[She turns and begins through the woods in the direction of civilization.]
[Action]
How... how did you become one of the best? What-- training did you do? [And will you teach her?]
[Action]
Well for one thing I didn't limit myself.
You'll forgive me for saying this my dear, but you clearly have had the instruction of what we in my realm call a "white witch" all this focusing, and self restraint. A witch of your talents shouldn't be bottling herself up so. It's dreadfully stifling, and besides, when you try damming up a force that great eventually somewhere your walls are going to spring a leak. The power is in you, Wanda, and it will find it's way out regardless of how much time you waste trying to contain it. You have to embrace your gift and let it out or you shall never find yourself with any real freedom and, I dare say, a lifetime of repression.
[Action]
... I've always been told to control my powers. By my father. ... By everyone. When I was a little girl, I couldn't and-- bad things happened. Letting my power go is... frightening.
[That said, she does sort of like what the Witch is selling.]
[Action]
I suppose that's understandable given your raw power. But truly, my dear girl, that's half the fun! You'll never know what you're capable of doing unless you give yourself permission to try. And mistakes will be made surely, but it's how you choose to grow from them that formulates the Witch you'll become.
[Action]
Re: [Action]
My dear girl, what are you so afraid of? And don't say nothing or ramble off a half grown excuse, I see far better than most even with only one eye. You have a blockage about you, that much is clear as day. And until you learn to release it you'll never be truly content. Now, what is it about mistakes that troubles you so?
no subject
... Ahm. When-- a person holds as much power as... we do. It's. ... They. [Aughh, failure, failure, abort, abort!] We... are examples to those with less ability. Mistakes are weakness, and weakness is nothing that a person in-- our position should show or have.
[Action]
Oh Wanda, people are just people. More power or less, everyone makes a mistake now and again, and anyone that tells you differently is lying. Either to you or to themself.
And as far as being an example is concerned, weakness does not come from making a mistake. It comes from apologizing for it. That is the real secret about power. It doesn't come from magical potential. It comes from the strength of your conviction. If you stand firm always, regardless of may be happening around you, you will have a power that no one can take from you, a power that's far more real than any magic you or I possess. If you waver, then, and only then are you showing weakness.
[Planting the seed of confusion, the Witch smiles at her own cleverness. This child is shaping up in a few short minutes to be the finest puppet one could ask for.}
[Action]
... Oh. That's. ... Oh.
[Colour her confused and conflicted.]
[Action]
I've upset you, I can see. I'm sorry my dear, I didn't mean to go waffling on so, and what do I really know anyway. Pay no heed to the ramblings of an old woman.
[Action]
[Action]
Perhaps it's best to let that subject rest awhile then. Let you think on it yourself before I go spouting off anymore foolish nonsense. Why don't you tell me about your friends. I haven't been here long yet and you're the first person I've really spoken to. I would so like to make new acquaintances, and get to know the area.
[Lies, but if she really wants to control this child the Witch needs to know what sort of a support system she has and how it can be manipulated.]
Re: [Action]
Well... I have a few. Kate runs HQ with me... she's human. Oh, but very nice. I like her. Bulla is... an alien. She's teaching me to fly, and has super strength. ...Kurt is... from my world. [Hello, unwanted blush! Fuck you too!] He's a mutant as well. A teleporter. Um. Billy and Tommy are... [Complicated?] ... great guys. Oh, Billy has the same power I do. Teddy's an alien too. He and Raven are both Shape shifters. And I'm not sure what Eleanor is, but ... she was given power through science.
[Enjoy that word-vomit of names!]
[Action]
That sounds like quite the talented bunch. Aliens you say, and a man with the same power as you? You sound like an extraordinary band. I should love to meet them.
Re: [Action]
[She gestures casually, her hex aura flaring up and a near by tree quaking from it's roots to it's leaves, it's branches and roots twisting until it's re-formed into the pose of a person with outstretched arms.]
But he's come to his senses. I think he'd love to meet another magic user!
[Action]
[This is something the Witch hasn't encountered before. Blue is the favored color of the munchkins but it certainly is not due to skin tone.]
But hiding it. Shameful. I shouldn't cover my pallor even if I could. It's disgraceful to lower oneself at behest of others.
As to your magical companion, I wouldn't mind an introduction if you think that would help knock such foolish notions out of his head. Though truly, any wizard that thinks they can simply give up magic has quite left their wits behind them.
