Test Flight Meme

the luceti test flight meme

Reserves are open and apps are right around the corner. But are you still on the fence about any of your would-be characters? Well -- here is your chance to take them out for a spin!

TAG IN or reply to others with characters you would like to test flight for Luceti.
ONLY add top-level comments for characters who are not yet in the game. You're free to reply to others with Luceti characters (because that's half the fun) but remember that the whole point of this meme is for potential characters.
PLEASE do not post duplicates of characters already in Luceti.
GO AHEAD and give us a brief description of your character in the top-level comment, along with one or two possible ways to run into your test-driven character around town.
YOU MAY use these threads for your first person samples on your app -- just make sure that you link threads of a goodly length (i.e., threads with at least ten comments from your character).

Need a little help getting started? Remember, you needn't post here as though your character is still brand-spankin' new. It'll probably be more fun for all involved if this isn't a simple dress rehearsal for showing up. Here are a few scenario ideas:

o1. The grocery store is out of food. What do you do?
o2. Wing injury! Call for help or stagger your way to one of our fine clinics.
o3. It's a busy evening at Good Spirits, one of Luceti's local bars. Do you dare try the drink specials?
o4. Have a talent for music? Try playing DJ at HQ, the new nightclub! Don't have one? Just dance your butt off.
o5. Beach party? Snow party? Leaf-raking party? Gardening party? YOU DECIDE.

Okay. So my examples are pretty non-exciting. But they're really just suggestions. I'm POSITIVE you kids can come up with more creative things.

Above all? HAVE FUN. Oh. And don't forget to RESERVE your characters.

[ Oh shit. What gave it away? He was pretty sure he didn't have anyone in his teeth, he hadn't eaten anything in days. Not since the last remnants of Perry's brain.

Come on, come on. Think, don't be weird try and be normal for once.

It takes monumental effort but he works up a casual shrug. Noncommital as they get. ]

[ Ben offered a small, rueful smile. ]

You'd probably know better than me.

[ He gestured awkwardly back at his wings with one hand and shrugged. His posture was still stiff and awkward, unbalanced by the addition of the new wings. ]

Given how crazy the wings are, I thought the problems around here would be... a little less domestic.

[ He turned, and was surprised to see someone that young, perhaps a year or two older than Allana. What kind of sleemo started doing large-scale body modifications on kids? His first instinct was to ask what "crazy, even for them" meant, to be sure that the boy hadn't gone through any less-obvious trauma --

And then he followed the kid's gaze out the window.

Ben's jaw dropped, and he pinched himself hard, unable to believe it was anything but a dream. Surely, he'd wake up in the spy craft with his stomach rumbling and Tahiri ready with some quip about his stomach going to his head -- but no, the pinch hurt, and he was still seeing food with wings. ]

That, [ he said, blinking hard, ] is taking the wing thing way too far.

[ Ben almost fell out of the tree.

He caught himself at the last moment, heart pounding in his ears. He knew some of these Force presences, and he knew that sending of reassurance -- had felt it in places far more immediately dangerous than this, from the depths of the Anakin Solo to Nam Chorios to Abeloth's planet. Normally, he'd take that Force presence, and that outpouring of emotion, as proof that things would be fine, no matter how strange or dangerous they seemed at the moment...

... but there was something off about the almost-Luke-Skywalker presence that made Ben's stomach drop. It was less solid than the Force presence Ben had relied on since his mother had died. Was it because Ben's access to the Force seemed dampened? Was it a side effect of whatever experiments they'd been caught up in? Had something done serious damage to the Grand Master of the Jedi Order--? No, he thought, anchoring himself to that thought. That's not possible. Not after Luke Skywalker had faced down Abeloth and the Yuuzhan Vong and the Force-knew how many Palpatines and Palpatine clones.

Ben closed his eyes and poured his own emotions into the Force -- a sense of safety and well-being to highlight that he didn't feel like he was in any immediate peril, but accompanied by a generous helping of confusion, concern, and restlessness. So far, every new development in this place was a mystery, and, no matter how much he trusted his father to take care of himself in almost any situation, there was too much that Ben's racing mind wanted to know now. ]

Re: 1

[ Training with the Jedi and the Guard had taught Ben to be careful of his surroundings, and spending time with the carnivorous fauna on Abeloth's prison-world had taught him to never take a pretty forest for granted. Even as he waited for his father, he stood on the low branch, craning his neck and taking in the forest visually.

And that's when he saw the Togruta.

At least, he thought she was a Togruta. He was no more used to seeing winged Togruta than he was to seeing, well, winged himself. He didn't think she was as uncomfortable with the wings as he was, since she had managed to perch herself on a high-strung rope, but he didn't know if it was safe to assume that meant she'd had time to get used to them.

But if she was used to them, she might have learned something about this place...

He gave her a cautious wave and a small, uncertain smile. ]

[When he felt the presence of the other Jedi answering in kind, Luke honestly had to slow his pace down a bit out of sheer surprise. Only Mara and Leia had ever really been able to share that connection with him so far. At least, as far as an obvious and clearly well practiced reply went. That was curious to say the least, and in the interest of getting to this person and sharing answers to questions, he broke into a run.

While he did so, Luke projected more thoughts, reassurances of answers and of his own wellbeing. There may well have been a bit of confusion too, but he tried very hard to keep that particular feeling out of the sending. Whoever this was they clearly knew him and had some connection, and knowing Luceti that could have meant just about anything. Someone from his future, someone with some connection to Mara, or perhaps a student of Kyle’s?

It’s only a moment or two more before Luke gets close enough to where he feels the other person should be able to hear him. Steeling himself for a shock, he looks up at the tree where Ben is and calls out in his friendliest voice.]

Hello there!

[The answer to at least one of Ben’s questions should probably be a bit clearer to him, at least. The Luke down there on the ground is a younger man in his early thirties. There’s no grey in his hair yet, and while a decade or more of war with the Empire has certainly taken it’s toll, he’s not as wrinkled as Ben might remember. But all the same it’s very clearly Luke Skywalker looking up at him.

Or, at least…at what he can see through the branches.]

[When the new presence decides to make itself known, Ahsoka doesn't panic and lose her balance on the rope. Instead, she turns on her toes to look over at him. That will give him a good look at not one but two lightsabers that hang from her belt. He has that same familiar sense that Luke did when she spoke to him and she can't help but wonder if this is another Skywalker.

Either way, she isn't one to turn away someone in need. So he gets a smile in return.]

Afraid not. But I can answer the questions you probably have.

[To make him feel a little better about waking up in a strange forest without any of his belongings and with a brand-new pair of wings, she jumps from the rope and lands lightly on the ground below. Now he has the upper ground even if she is armed.]

[Anakin had been running through the forest, (or, it was more appropriate to say he’d been ‘expending energy,’ being trapped under a dome when every fiber of his being was screaming he, metaphorically, stretch his wings was a daily trial in not losing his mind) when he felt the arrival of another Force-user close by. He diverted his intended course to check out the new arrival.

He could tell right away the new arrival was a Light-side practitioner, and he felt no need to alert others yet. And there was something else in the Force, too, something telling him this person was… familiar? But the individual certainly wasn’t anyone Anakin had known before.

It didn’t take him long to reach the tree of the young man, and he stopped under the branches.

Ben would see a tall man with wings like his own, but black and dark red feathers instead. And a clearly visible mechanical right arm. And he possibly might see a family resemblance.]

“Hello. You’re the new arrival?” [It was asked directly, but without hostility. More curious than anything else, because Anakin did see that resemblance.]

[ Words he had never thought he would hear from his brother's lips- but that is the power of a mother's embrace. Her presence after a loss as keen as Loki has felt is all that he could think that would cause such an admission.

For Thor there is nothing he can say. Nothing he feels that needs saying. Frigga has ever had his love and his trust- Loki and he had sorted their differences not long ago. They are not as they were, but they are as close to it as they could ever be after all that had come to pass.

To have that- to have this? Makes much of what he'd seen and endured in this place bearable. He can only hope it has done much the same for his brother. That it will do so for their mother. ]

[ He glanced down, shifting some of the foliage aside, and -- ]

-- stang.

[ It was not the politest way to greet anyone, let alone family, but Ben wasn't going to beat himself up about it when this wasn't the father he'd said goodbye to at the Red Ronto. This Luke Skywalker looked more like he'd stepped out of an old holo, and couldn't have been older than Jaina. Ben's mind skipped uneasily from thoughts of the Qrephs' biots to Lumiya's Force-phantoms to off-hand, over-voweled clones... but the Luke Skywalker standing in front of him wasn't giving off the vac-headed childishness of a biot, or the madness he'd heard about with some Spaarti-grown clones. It just felt like... his dad. But younger.

Ben's heart sank. It would almost have been easier to talk to an artificial replica of his father, something that was clearly not Luke Skywalker -- like meeting the droid recreation of Anakin Solo on Centerpoint Station all those years ago. He didn't know how to talk to a father who was too young to remember having a child -- maybe even too young to remember being married, or meeting Mara at all. The thought felt like a rancor kick to the chest, and Ben couldn't quite keep his sense of shock and worry out of his Force aura. ]

I mean -- hi.

[ He dropped out of the tree a few steps away from Luke, landing awkwardly from the unfamiliar weight of the wings, and using the Force to right himself. He looked the younger Luke Skywalker over uneasily, taking in the sandy, ungreying hair and the absence of familiar wrinkles. This too-young Luke couldn't have the wrinkles of the Yuuzhan Vong War, of sacrificing a nephew, of watching another family member fall to the dark side, or of losing a wife. But... that meant he wouldn't remember the New Jedi Order, pressing close to tell him how much he had done for all of them. He wouldn't remember the hours spent in the Jade Shadow. He wouldn't remember Allana. He wouldn't remember Ben.

He took a deep breath and smiled tentatively, knowing that it wouldn't do anything to mask the confusion he was radiating into the Force, and hoping that he could get his thoughts in order enough to explain why his emotions were running amok.

No, he really wasn't going to beat himself up too much over the expletive. The situation had definitely called for it. ]

That works. I'm not sure I want to meet the sleemo who attached these to me right away.

[ He reached over his shoulder to pat the wings for emphasis, and tried to get a better look at her. Those were definitely lightsabers at her belt, though the designs were strange and the clasps were different than he'd seen anyone in the Order use. ]

You're part of the Order, right?

[ He'd thought he knew, or knew of, everyone in the rebuilt Jedi Order. With about thousand knights and masters, and a robust population of apprentices even after the clash with the Lost Tribe on Coruscant, he should have been able to recognize her at least. The fact that he couldn't place her, despite the lightsabers at her side, was almost as unsettling as not having his own weapons handy in a mystery forest. If she were a bounty hunter who just happened to use a lightsaber, or if she were a Sith...

Well. He'd figure out how to handle that if she tried to chop any limbs off him. ]

[It is surprising, but not entirely unexpected to hear Loki's confession. He was not one who apologized lightly with any sincerity, nor was he one to admit to any sort of fault. He must have dwelled deeply on what kept him separated from her during her time of distress. She would not have him carry the guilt of his absence, but she was pleased that he would consider it. She hoped that he had learned now that he had a place, a home, if only he would come alongside those who loved him.]

It is a brave man who would call my son a fool. [Frigga drops her arms, shifting in their embrace to frame Loki's face with her hands so that she might look upon him. She speaks more quietly, with less courtly resonance in her voice and more simple encouragement.] It is a brave son who would face his folly.

[Seeing his face, Frigga could tell that she had guessed correctly. Loki was indeed blind. She leaned up and pressed a kiss to his forehead, extending a familiar bit of magic with it - an expression of warmth, a projection of acceptance. She would not have her time with her sons tainted by dwelling in regrets.]

I am. My name is Ahsoka Tano.

[ Ben was on his feet in an instant, his jaw dropping. He might not have been present when Ghent sliced Artoo's memories of his grandparents during the Swarm War, but Ben had spent enough time in the Temple Archives after Jacen had tried to turn him that he would have known that face anywhere.

Anakin Skywalker.

Far too late, he tried to stop his shock from pouring into the Force. This was nowhere near as emotionally exhausting as encountering a younger version of his own father. Anakin Skywalker had died decades before Ben was even born, and notorious as his grandfather was, it was much easier for Ben to encounter someone he only knew from holos and reports than to face his own temporally displaced father. ]

[That reaction told Luke a great many things. He frowned slightly at the expletive, and had an odd, inexplicable urge to call the young man down for it. He didn’t, of course, as he didn’t even know his name. But that was just the tip of the iceberg. That sudden jolt of emotion in the New Feather…no…the new Jedi, spoke volumes about just how important Luke was to whoever this was and he got a sinking feeling that this was going to be one of those conversations that changed his life forever.

The confusion probably showed on his face as Ben approached, but he didn’t much care at the moment because when he got a better look he began to notice the similarities. The hair, the jaw, even his presence in the Force all reminded him of someone. And then there were the young man’s eyes, along with the sense of him. Yes, this definitely was cause to look completely dumbstruck. And somewhere in the back of his mind, he began to empathize very, very strongly with what Anakin had gone through.

Swallowing, Luke took a deep breath to steady himself and extended his hand, along with a hesitant smile. He was beginning to work it out, and even knowing that someone could very possibly come from his future, it was still quite a shock. This youth…he had to be related somehow. Another one of Han’s children? A…cousin?]

[ Ben winced for a moment. The inherent awkwardness of the situation was weighing on him, and he decided that the sooner they addressed the bantha in the room head on, the sooner he could get his dad's help unraveling why they were in a time-space-distorting, wing-grafting, logic-abusing mess. On the bright side, he thought -- or maybe just hoped -- that this younger version of his father would believe Ben when he explained who he was. Skywalker family history had shown that Force was nothing if not an excellent way of backing up surprising declarations of paternity.

He exhaled, and flashed a rueful, half-apologetic smile. It was a long way from the trademark Solo grin, but that was fine with Ben. It wasn't a charming smile, but it was genuine, and that was more important at the moment. ]

He'd never quite mastered Han's, but he could affect a proper imitation when he needed to. And right now he felt like he should probably be doing everything he could to make this situation as least awkward as possible. And that did mean getting straight to the point and shooing the bantha out of the room and back to it's pen.]

Yeah...you can say that again.

[Shaking his head, he huffed a soft laugh and just said it straight out. He'd never had Leia's gift for diplomacy, after all.]

... you're famous.

[ For being a Republic hero. For being Darth Vader. For coming back to the light, and proving that I could save Tahiri, too. For destroying the Jedi and helping them come back. For bringing balance to the Force. For having a legacy so important I wouldn't know where to start explaining it.

And maybe he couldn't explain it -- not in words, anyway. Instead, he took a deep, almost meditative breath, and let some of his admiration into his Force-aura while he tried to figure out what in the galaxy he should do next. ]
