Test Flight Meme
Reserves are open and apps are right around the corner. But are you still on the fence about any of your would-be characters? Well -- here is your chance to take them out for a spin!
▣ TAG IN or reply to others with characters you would like to test flight for Luceti.
▣ ONLY add top-level comments for characters who are not yet in the game. You're free to reply to others with Luceti characters (because that's half the fun) but remember that the whole point of this meme is for potential characters.
▣ PLEASE do not post duplicates of characters already in Luceti.
▣ GO AHEAD and give us a brief description of your character in the top-level comment, along with one or two possible ways to run into your test-driven character around town.
▣ YOU MAY use these threads for your first person samples on your app -- just make sure that you link threads of a goodly length (i.e., threads with at least ten comments from your character).
Need a little help getting started? Remember, you needn't post here as though your character is still brand-spankin' new. It'll probably be more fun for all involved if this isn't a simple dress rehearsal for showing up. Here are a few scenario ideas:
o1. The grocery store is out of food. What do you do?
o2. Wing injury! Call for help or stagger your way to one of our fine clinics.
o3. It's a busy evening at Good Spirits, one of Luceti's local bars. Do you dare try the drink specials?
o4. Have a talent for music? Try playing DJ at HQ, the new nightclub! Don't have one? Just dance your butt off.
o5. Beach party? Snow party? Leaf-raking party? Gardening party? YOU DECIDE.
Okay. So my examples are pretty non-exciting. But they're really just suggestions. I'm POSITIVE you kids can come up with more creative things.
Above all? HAVE FUN. Oh. And don't forget to RESERVE your characters.
it's a family reunion!
'Luceti?' [The name is strange on her tongue. And how is it that Thor's voice was 'lost?' This was no sickness, she could sense that at once.] I do not know of such a place.
[Her questions halted when she sensed a familiar burst of power, and she cocks her head abruptly to the side, a habitual movement of sudden focus. So it is that she is looking directly toward him when Loki appears, and she holds out one hand to him, the other still resting against Thor's shoulder.]
Loki!
[But something is wrong. She can see it in the way he holds himself -- and he is so distant. (And what had happened to his hair? And to Thor's robes, for that matter?]
my heart will not survive this
He turns his head slightly when he hears Frigga's voice. He's practiced enough now that he has a very good idea of how far away she is, where she's standing even if he cannot see the gesture. A little spell, the lightest of kinetic pushes, and he knows for certain. And he does take a little step toward her and Thor before he stops himself.
He wants this to be real, so very badly. But how is he to know?]
Mother.
[Are you actually Mother?]
Lemme grab the kleenex
[ He cannot explain. He has not the words even if he had the voice to give them. But Loki- Loki understood far better than any other in the village save those that had been here from the beginning, and perhaps even after. As loathe as he is to leave his mother's side, his brother is blind.
Not lost, no, but blind, and he squeezes his mother's hand on his shoulder to offer some solace before he walks to Loki and catches one of his hands in his large one.
Signing was still new to him, the words he knew simple, but he is more than able to make a simple gesture against Loki's palm. Something he could understand.
Mom. ]
;;
Thor can not speak. And Loki... could it be that he could not see?
There was something wrong here.]
Will you yet stand so far off? [Quietly, so quietly. Enough.] Then I will come to you.
[With quick strides, she closes the distance between them. Frigga wraps one arm around Loki's shoulders, drawing him close, and catches Thor with the other, including him in the embrace. This unexpected joy, even if it is brief, to hug her sons once again was worth grasping with both hands.]
*inhuman noises*
[And this is the part where Frigga's arm wraps around him. For a moment he resists, not pushing away, but not being drawn in, because this terrifies him.
She smells like Mother.
The dream shifter smelled like Mother too.
But he's not made of stone. He's never been able to resist his own heart when he wants something. And what he wants is for it to be real this time, for this to be Mother, for everything to be all right for once. For this to not end with her laying in a pool of blood drawn by his hand.
He makes a strange, choked little sound, then wraps his arms around her. He gathers up handfuls of the new feather dress with shaking fingers.
Face pressed against her shoulder, he whispers for her ears only:] I'm sorry.
all the sobbing
But he needs not do so, needs not argue with his few means with Loki for Mother comes to them. Holds them as she had before the Bifrost shattered, before the tesseract, before Jotunhiem. Before all the world and all the realms were torn asunder in was he'd never have thought possible.
She holds them and he melts into her embrace, once again resting his cheek in her hair and clinging. She is not lost. They are not, all of them, lost. Tis a foolish thing to hope for this to be true but he could never abandon hope entirely. Not when he might have this, his mother, his brother, his family whole and hale and holding one another as they once had ages ago. ]
all the sobbing x2
She kisses the crown of Loki's head in response to his words. For words said in anger, words meant to cut, I forgive you this and more, my son.
She could feel Thor resting hard against her and took deep satisfaction in holding him back, in erasing that final moment where he could not hold her, could not keep her.
Frigga shut her eyes but freely allowed a few tears to fall. She was not ashamed of the love she bore for her children, and she never had been.]
My sons. [Whispered, and again - stronger.] My sons.
[She had questions, the most urgent of which burned within her -- how had they come to such a place? -- but more important, always more important, was that they knew they were loved.]
;;
They didn't tell me you were dead, he wants to tell her. Your husband only sent me a guard, after you were long gone. I wasn't there to see your spirit home, and--
No, it can wait. It can wait. For just this minute, he will be happy and falling to pieces all at once.]
Mother. [It's the only answer that matters right now.]
T^T
[ Alive. For now that is all that matters to him. That he has his family and they yet live, even if it is in a place so quick and strange as this. There are words choking him, winding around his throat to strangle him but he cannot speak.
He'd lost the ability when Loki lost his sight. And he knows not how to explain to their mother that this has come to pass.
No words twist themselves from his tongue- his arms tighten all the more around Frigga and Loki, as though by will alone he could pass his heart and his thoughts to them so long as he held them fast. ]

And yet, how strong they were, to be bent but not broken, lost but to have found a way to reconcile after all which had stood between them. What a wonder to hold them so close again, a wonder that they would stand so next to each other and embrace each other as they embraced her.
Her voice was thick with emotion, and she could not find it within her to let them go. For all she knew, she could be snatched away from them at any moment - this was borrowed time. There was much they needed to know.]
I am proud of you, my sons. It gives me such joy to hold the two of you again, to know that you have found a way to reconcile. I love you both with all my heart.
(ooc: my last tag for the night. thank you for an amazing thread so far!)

[Because shaken as he is, in this moment he can't escape the truth and pretend that Thor is equally to blame in the end. He's been reminded of it far too forcefully and recently. He'd wasted so much time and energy on anger, instead of focusing on the one person who had truly deserved his wrath. And because of that, he had made himself into the orphan he'd claimed to be.
Later, he'll think of excuses. Later, he'll come up with a way for it to be just as much Thor's idiocy as his own anger. But there is a certain inescapable truth in agony.]
no subject
For Thor there is nothing he can say. Nothing he feels that needs saying. Frigga has ever had his love and his trust- Loki and he had sorted their differences not long ago. They are not as they were, but they are as close to it as they could ever be after all that had come to pass.
To have that- to have this? Makes much of what he'd seen and endured in this place bearable. He can only hope it has done much the same for his brother. That it will do so for their mother. ]

It is a brave man who would call my son a fool. [Frigga drops her arms, shifting in their embrace to frame Loki's face with her hands so that she might look upon him. She speaks more quietly, with less courtly resonance in her voice and more simple encouragement.] It is a brave son who would face his folly.
[Seeing his face, Frigga could tell that she had guessed correctly. Loki was indeed blind. She leaned up and pressed a kiss to his forehead, extending a familiar bit of magic with it - an expression of warmth, a projection of acceptance. She would not have her time with her sons tainted by dwelling in regrets.]

Instead he smiles, as he always does when something hurts. At least this is the sort of pain that heals.] Don't be silly, mother. Everyone knows Loki is a coward. But... [He draws an unsteady breath, fumbling to pluck at her sleeve with one hand.] I am glad you might think such silly things anyway.
no subject
It is no silly thought to have and he expresses his displeasure in the only way possible, a finger poked lightly against his temple with a slow and steady pressure.
Not a coward, his little brother. Braver than most he could ever imagine. ]
no subject
What is this pain you carry, my son? How can you begin to heal?
It is an interesting thing, how his words would seem to pass over her own, but she could see how he was taking comfort from them. Slipping sideways and seeking to shield himself again, she thought, but she could see his heart and she does not release him.
Frigga's gaze flicker's to Thor's motion, and her eyebrows raise slightly. How like him to come to the defense of those he loved.
She responded to Loki's words by stepping closer and slowly moving to embrace him, giving him a hug which would be his alone.]
It pleases me to think so.
[To think of him being brave enough to confront his foolishness, as he is in confessing it. She does not doubt that Loki will hear that meaning in her words, for all that she could also be teasing him about his assessment of her thoughts.]
no subject
[And really, isn't Loki ultimately composed of things which are not true, but other people believe? Indeed.
But he folds into her embrace, pressing his face against her shoulder again for a moment. Perhaps this is easier on Thor, because this Thor may know of Frigga's death, but has not lived it. And even if this was the Thor of his time, Loki thinks it would not be the same for them. Because at least Thor had a chance to say goodbye. All he ever had was the message from the lips of a guard.
After a long moment of just assuring himself that impossibly, this is real (and if it isn't, let the dream kill him, he no longer cares and there is no reason to fight) he finally straightens.]
But what thoughtless sons you have, for you to still be standing in the desert in your bare feet. We ought to see to that, yes?
no subject
After all that they'd endured recently? Loki does need this far more than he. Without his voice all Thor can do, and all he is content to do, is stand guard while they regain their mutual composure.
As for returning to the village- he could fly but one of them and it would be unwise to attempt to do so with Loki in his state, and Frigga had never expressed much joy in Thor's haste with flight. ]
Loki could see us home safely.
no subject
And ah, yes. Her bare feet, the hot sand... she has endured far worse.
Pulling away just enough from Loki's embrace, one hand goes to frame his cheek while her other seeks Thor's. She looks up at both her sons, is touching both her sons, and her eyes are full of love and wonder.]
I do not know how this has come to be, but I am glad of the opportunity to see you both again, and to have someplace to go. I would hear more of this place, and more of your lives here. By all means, let us go.

[Loki takes a half step back and seeks out Frigga's hand and Thor's, having to fumble a little bit without his sight. Then he bows his head, putting together the spell that will take all three of them back to the house he shares with Rogue.
What will mother think of that?
Well, he shall find out.
After he builds the spell and gathers his annoyingly diminished power, he pulls all three of them across space, to his house. Three is more difficult than he will admit under the current circumstances. When they appear in the middle of his living room, he loses his balance and half-collapses against Thor. Dizzily, he grasps at Thor's armor.]

He reaches for Loki's hand before Loki fumbles too badly, pride a thing that he is not the sole owner of in this family, and steps with and through alongside his brother and his mother through the odd twist of reality Loki caused. Tis always a strange sensation, moving this way, but it bothers him less than it might have as a younger man.
The air is no longer so stifling, so dry but Thor has no time to enjoy it as Loki feels the effects of his spell- catching his brother is second nature. Helping him to the nearest sofa? A little stranger. but no less necessary. He motions for Frigga to settle next to Loki as well, hands held in his brother's to sign against his palm.
Water? ]

She does not take a seat, but crouches by Loki.]
What is this? What has happened?
no subject
It is all right, mother. Just a bit tired.
[Oh, right. And they're in his house now. Rogue isn't home; he'd be able to tell if she was in the building. He smiles crookedly.]
And please, be welcome in my home.

[ Thor writes this out for his mother before fetching a glass of water for Loki, complete with a straw. It made sipping at least a little bit simpler. That and a glass for his mother. He hands one to Frigga once she is settled as being lost in the desert must be thirsty work. Loki's he presses into his hand, taking the other to rest upon the plastic of the straw. ]

How long have you two been in this place? And what manner of place is this?
['Barrier.' 'Enclosure.' ...'home']
