Reserves are open and apps are right around the corner. But are you still on the fence about any of your would-be characters? Well -- here is your chance to take them out for a spin!

▣ TAG IN or reply to others with characters you would like to test flight for Luceti.
▣ ONLY add top-level comments for characters who are not yet in the game. You're free to reply to others with Luceti characters (because that's half the fun) but remember that the whole point of this meme is for potential characters.
▣ PLEASE do not post duplicates of characters already in Luceti.
▣ GO AHEAD and give us a brief description of your character in the top-level comment, along with one or two possible ways to run into your test-driven character around town.
▣ YOU MAY use these threads for your first person samples on your app -- just make sure that you link threads of a goodly length (i.e., threads with at least ten comments from your character).

Need a little help getting started? Remember, you needn't post here as though your character is still brand-spankin' new. It'll probably be more fun for all involved if this isn't a simple dress rehearsal for showing up. Here are a few scenario ideas:

o1. The grocery store is out of food. What do you do?
o2. Wing injury! Call for help or stagger your way to one of our fine clinics.
o3. It's a busy evening at Good Spirits, one of Luceti's local bars. Do you dare try the drink specials?
o4. Have a talent for music? Try playing DJ at HQ, the new nightclub! Don't have one? Just dance your butt off.
o5. Beach party? Snow party? Leaf-raking party? Gardening party? YOU DECIDE.

Okay. So my examples are pretty non-exciting. But they're really just suggestions. I'm POSITIVE you kids can come up with more creative things.

Above all? HAVE FUN. Oh. And don't forget to RESERVE your characters.

[Sketchbook drop or no sketchbook drop, Simon won't turn his attention to Jeb until Taka's landed safely and has been rewarded for his successful hunt. Rewarding the bird is key in falconry, after all, and the last thing he needs is for Taka to get the impression that Simon is no longer truly above him.

Good boy.

Right, now then. Some kid dropped something- he saw as much from the corner of his eye. He'll just turn to see if there's no trouble there.]

...

[O-Oh, the man isn't... saying anything anything. Jeb will just squat down and scoop up his sketchbook.]

I'm sorry! I got a little startled, and...

Startled? [He repeats the word in a voice that could easily be mistaken for mocking, but really, he's just amused.]

By this amicable bird? I would not worry. Taka only sets his sights on small animals. [He takes a moment to scratch the hawk's neck. Not that Taka's paying too much attention; he's still holding that mouse.] ...Unless, of course, you have something to hide. He's sensitive to that sort of thing.

[He sulks a little without meaning to.]

No... I'm not hiding anything, and I don't think he'd hurt me. I just... [He laughs sheepishly.] I was just startled by the sound, that's all! I wasn't expecting it.

[He takes a better look at Taka and smiles.]

He's a really majestic bird, sir.

[And he means that, despite everything.]

[Ohoh, Taka was complimented. Or perhaps it was more like stating a fact, because Taka is pretty darn majestic. Either way, it does Simon's ears good.]

That he is. I have always held high expectations for him, yet he has never failed to deliver. [...Even while Simon was in prison. That is one loyal bird.]

That's great to hear! [He smiles a little more.] He seems to be a really good friend of yours.

Of course. One could not ask for a more loyal companion.

[Which rings true for two reasons when it comes to Simon. The first is that he doesn't really have anyone else he can still consider a companion in his position, and the second is that he doesn't actively seek any other companions because he's fine with just Taka.]

So he's Taka... [Jeb looks directly at Simon.] What about you? What's your name?

[He takes a few more seconds to pet Taka at his own leisure before responding.] Simon Blackquill. And you are?

It's nice to meet you, Simon. [And then, it's like his entire presence beams with happiness.] I'm Jeb. Jeb Parmalee!

[Meanwhile, Simon's own presence is still beaming with a sort of nonchalant indifference. What is socializing and how does one act pleasant towards other people?]

I see. Then, it is my honor to meet you, Parmalee-dono. [Normally, he would've gone with a nickname, but Jeb did just call Taka a "majestic bird". That's worth a -dono in his book.]

"Parmalee-dono"? [The repeated words are spoken not in mocking, but in confusion.]

[...] It is a honorific used by the samurai of yore.

[And if Jeb doesn't know this much, Simon will give him a proverbial penalty. Come on, everyone should know this much.]

...oh. You're right, aren't you? It's been a while since I've heard about it.

[Sometimes, Michiru would talk about those sort of things with him. ...hey, just because she's obsessed with smut alongside his sister doesn't mean she doesn't have other interests!]

T-Thank you, for thinking I'm worthy of that. So, Simon... does that mean you're a samurai? [He's never heard of one named Simon, but...]

[Ah, but Jeb has heard of it, then. Good. Other worlds managed to retain samurai. ...Or perhaps Jeb is from some version of Earth as well. To be honest, he's not sure which scenario is more likely, as they both seem surreal. Luceti takes a lot of getting used to.

Either way, the question posed before him is a rather interesting one. He could claim to be a true samurai. He could spout some grand accomplishments and leave the truth of his life behind. With nobody else from his world here, no one would be the wiser. However, the lie would be far too great and far too shameful. He's made too many mistakes and he knows that. If he'd been half the man he'd needed to be, he wouldn't have found himself where he has for the past seven years. His mentor wouldn't be dead, either.

He isn't worthy of the title of a true samurai. He can only pretend to be as great as them.]

...Hm. Perhaps more of an enthusiast.

An enthusiast, huh...? [Well, that doesn't seem to ruin Jeb's mood any. He still looks plenty cheery.] Well, it's certainly not bad to be enthusiastic about something, not at all! And if if calling me "Parmalee-dono" stems from that enthusiasm, I'd be honored to be called that by you.

[Honored, huh? That's a first. Most people seem to think Simon's kind of a weirdo for sticking with such an unusual way of speaking. Not that they voice it out loud in front of him, but oh, the many times Aura poked fun at him for it... He can't even begin to count them all.]

Rest assured, I will continue to do so. [Meanwhile, on his arm, Taka decides to try and eat its prey. It's... not a pretty sight, but Simon isn't paying the slightest bit of attention to it.]
