[Action - Good Spirits, early evening]

[Every society, no matter where you go, has a way to get drunk.

Ginia muses on the thought with a faint smile as she sits in Good Spirits, sipping at a milkshake with a few shots of Baileys in it. It's been a strange, long day that's ended with being shot and bleeding out on a run and beginning anew in a strange village with wings. Worse was a lingering feeling she knew the village, somehow, in some strange way. It was impossible, she was sure she would have remembered being here. But the feeling was enough to get her back on her feet, into a clothing store for a fresh set of clothes, to the item store to pick up some supplies, and to Good Spirits.

She sits at a table toward the side, alternating between watching people as they come in and reading the guide provided in the journal. It's an interesting thing, the guide, and she takes her time memorizing information.

Later in the evening, she ventures out with some questions on the journal.]

It's an interesting thing, the journals. Written messages, audio messages, being able to address everyone as a whole, talk to individuals, send private messages, never runs out of pages, and looks like any regular sort of book. Tidy bit of technology, or magic I suppose. I like the guide too, very well-written and informative, my thanks to the author.

Anything else a New Feather should know about? The little local sorts of things. Legends, stories, suggested dishes to try at the restaurants, the dos and don'ts, those sorts of things. Give me your best. I have time.

[A pause. A smile.]

There's a library here. Do you want to see a picture?

Yes, yes I do. [something that gets rid of horses? Good. He supports this fully.]

[Ginia stands up and motions for him to follow. She studied a map earlier, but her feet carry her toward the library with certain ease. Even when they enter the library, it only takes her a small glance before she's headed toward a section of books, feeling utterly at ease surrounded by books from all the different worlds.]

[Luce looks around, unsure of all these books. They were tempting yes, but he didn't know which ones the Faith would approve of him reading as he just follows Ginia.]

[Best avoid the romance section. There are some very steamy books there. Explicit material. Very risque.

Ginia scans the bookshelves a little longer before she finds a history book from Earth. She thumbs through it and settles on a picture of an automobile which she shows him.]

[His eyes widen as he looks it over, one can see him reach for the reading glasses in his pocket so he could- well read how it works. But he stops himself, what if it involves something dangerous?]

So you put the fuel in it, and it works?

[The book is left in his hands (or on a shelf) as Ginia has to do a bit of juggling to take her notepad out of her pocket and write a new message.]

It's a little more complicated as far as the actual mechanics go. Is there machinery in your world? Power by coal or steam? Water or wind-powered?

[He cradles the book a little.] Like a windmill or a watermill?

[It's a start.]

A windmill, or waterwheel, works by a series of parts all connecting and working together. An automobile is like that, but with many, many parts all working together. I do wish I could show you.

I really don't know how those work. [At least he will be honest. He was told when he was younger that the workings or purposes of those things were not his business.] But, I will take your word on it. [He wonders if he can draw a picture of the automobile to show Abel now.]

They're very common where I'm from. More advanced than that picture, but they still serve the basic function. Air transportation is also very popular for long distances.

Air transportation? What of storms or hitting the sun?

Storms can be problematic, yes, as can high winds, which is why pilots - people that control airplanes - try to avoid bad weather. As for the sun, they don't fly that high. [Now space shuttles... Nah, she'll spare him that.]

[He can barely wrap his mind around being up in the sky. After all, while the general populace knows they wouldn't hit the sun for the reasons of not being so high up, Luce was kept nice and dumb about his world. Again, it wasn't his business to know that stuff.]

Well, that is good.

A strange idea, I know. Even I marvel over airplanes and I've flown on them countless times. Metal birds, how do they work?

I suppose metal birds would work like real ones. [Now he is imaging planes looking just like that, with people sat upon them like they were horses.]

I don't like the idea of being off the ground, I suppose.

Understandable. We weren't made to survive in water like fish or be up in the air like birds. The ground is our domain. Yet we find ways to go beyond where we should be.

And thusly, we shouldn't. If the Deity wanted us to fly, ey would have made us birds.

[And so Icarus flew higher and higher, ignoring the warnings of his father. And as he soared above everyone, the sun began to melt the wax holding the feathers together and so his wings fell apart...

Ginia nods slightly at his comment, then gestures around the library.]

Want to look around? Or have you already?

I shouldn't. I do not know which books the Church would approve of. [Maybe he can find a sermon book... No, don't tempt it.]

You aren't allowed to read what you want?

No, because what if I read some material that puts ideas into my head.

[In hindsight, his words don't surprise her.]
