[When Sabriel had first awoken she almost had a panic attack. She was weaponless, her armor stripped away in favor of a light dress that was far too thin and far too disoriented for her liking. It was only after she’d scoped out her immediate surroundings, searched the area physically as well as feeling for any Dead that she finally relaxed and took proper notice of the journal lying close by.

A thorough examination of the journal and read through the guide later she’s fiddling with the pages of the thing, the video flickering on to show her frowning down at the pages, unsure of how exactly to work it at first. Regardless of what questions and frustrations she had there was something she had to get clear to whoever was already living here, especially if they came across her equipment.]

If anyone happens to come across a brown leather bandolier of bells, please do NOT touch them unless you want to possibly die a swift death.

And I mean that in the most literal sense I can express.

[She gives the screen a very stern look, eyes narrowed and hard to fully impress her seriousness of the situation before sits back a bit as she sighs.]

With that out of the way, does anyone know where I might acquire a pair of breeches? Or rather, how to get there? I’m currently…well.

[The screen tilts as she lifts the journal, slowing turning on the spot to show her completely surrounded by trees, no other landmarks in sight.]

Any help would be very much appreciated. And please do not ignore my earlier warning.

[And with that the feed ends, leaving Sabriel to hunch down between the roots of the largest tree around to huddle for warmth.]

Thank you very much Miss- [She breaks off to muffle a sneeze in her elbow, shivering faintly.]

I don't suppose you'd be able to help me on my inquiry, would you? It's much too cold for any kind of dress.

Why the Malnosso keep sending people to the middle of nowhere in this weather I will never know. [Adele was standing, moving around the house to get a coat, extra winter clothes, and a spare pair of boots.] Your video showed nothing but trees. Is there nothing else you can tell me about your location?

Other than 'it's cold'? Not particularly. [She crosses her arms, glaring at the snow around her until an odd gleam catches her eye through the tree branches.] Wait, I think...there's something just over here. [Debating with herself for a moment she stands, shivering at the cold air before padding over to what caught her eye.] There's a river.

That will put you near either the western or eastern lake. Following it upstream will get you to the village. [On go the gloves and she's out the door, journal open in her hands to continue talking as she makes her way to the plaza.] There is nothing else? Nothing at all?

Upstream... [Despite the cold she can't help but feel a little relief at the sight of the river, dipping the tip of her finger into the cold water for a moment.] I think there is a mountain of some sort far behind the other side of the river.

Not terribly far then. Sit tight, I will find you soon. [Adele starts jogging, across a bridge and down the side of the southern river.]

Thank you Miss, I will be waiting by the river. [With that Sabriel goes back to what she was doing before, huddling beside a tree trunk facing the water while she waits. Sometime later she perks up at the sound of footsteps in the snow, lifting her head look for the source until she spots Adele.] Over here! [She managed to wave for about ten seconds before the chill got the best of her.]

There you are! One moment- [Adele stumbles a bit over a root and catches herself on the trunk, swearing under her breath before she makes her way to the woman properly.] Here. Boots, coat, gloves, scarf, hat- [As she speaks she's pulling the clothing from a bag on her back.] And pants.

My goodness- [Sabriel can't help but blink at the strange cut of the clothing coming out of the woman's bag but she's far too cold to take much more note of it, pulling all of it on almost as soon as the other woman has pulled the garmets out of her bag. At the moment she's pulling the pants over her frozen feet, sighing as the boots slip on next and give shelter to her toes.] I can't thank you enough Miss, this is more than I hoped for when I made that message. [Speaking of which, dipping down to retrieve her journal she slips it into one of the coat pockets before snuggling into the warmth of the scarf.]

I came here in similar weather, and was glad for any and all warmth I found. It is the least I can offer to a New Feather. [Adele sags against the nearest tree, one hand on her chest as she catches her breath.]

New Feather? Ah, that's right. [Wincing slightly she focuses on resettling the odd appendages stuck to her back under the coat, waiting until they're more comfortably tucked in before she next speaks.] Not even the Headmistress at the College was cruel enough to send us out into the snow in naught but a dress.

Not a term I invented, but one I abide by. [Adele offers a faint smile now that she can breathe.] ...bells that are tools, and you're a college student? Later, later, tell me after I get you somewhere warm, yes?

Yes please. [Sabriel returns the small smile, although her joy at being warm is slowly giving way to the heartache she arrived at Luceti with, her face looking worn and tired in more ways than one.] I am A-...Sabriel. Call me Sabriel.

Sabriel, I am Doctor Adele LeBlanc. [She extends a hand to the young woman.] Let me lead you back to the village, and then a proper meal.

I am in your debt, Doctor. [She takes the doctor's hand and gives it a firm squeeze and manages a mostly bright smile.] Thank you again.

No debts whatsoever. The way we survive here is by helping one another. There is no government, no currency, just the community trying to survive. And doing quite well, I might add. [Adele nods and releases Sabriel's hand, leading her down a path upstream to the village.]

[Sabriel listens quietly, letting it all sink in.] Other than the people who took us there are no problems? No...no Dead?

Problems? There is the odd kidnapping and experiment, but those are caused by our captors. As for ...what do you mean by Dead? If one is dead, there is no trouble. They are dead.

Those were mentioned in the guide, yes. As for the Dead... [Sabriel had heard talk like this before, Southerners who were adamantly ignorant of the threats found to the North over the Wall.] Where I am from, the Dead can return if the spirit is particularly strong, or called back to life by a Free Magic necromancer. There have been no reports of missing people, ravenous crows or strange shadows?

...More magic. Wonderful.

As far as I am aware there is nothing explicitly like that here. Similar? It is possible. But exactly like that? I do not know. People that are missing have been taken by the Malnosso or sent home. I am not aware of any ravenous birds, nor strange shadows.

Only in the Old Kingdom-that is to say, the land north of the Wall. The south is driven by technology and science. Not that it would do them any good against what might come from the Wall. [Her expression gets a little dark but with Adele's reassurance she relaxes a bit.] That is good...very good.

No, no. Magic and Science coexist here. How, I will never know, but they do. Luceti is a strange world with stranger rules.

They do? [Tipping her head in thought, Sabriel pulls a hand from her glove to press a finger to the Charter mark on her forehead. Instead of the familiar warmth and glow of the Charter flowing endlessly in a warm flash under her fingertip the skin remains cool and dull. Much like when she had been too far south from the Wall.] There is no Wall here or Charter Stones...my Charter Magic will not work.

I do now know what that is, but it must be important to you and those that use that type of magic. Do not worry, Luceti has a magic all it's own. There are spirits you may contact to learn what they would teach. Classes on how to contact them as well. Given time perhaps even your own magic will work again.
