Action
[This place? Makes her nervous as hell. The magic is palpable. From the barrier to the talking animals to self-repairing homes, she's lost track of the multitude of enchantments she comes into contact with here every day. Especially the wings. She hates them, but she's learned to leave them alone. Attempting to cut the left one the first day she was here taught her that. Her back still hurts every time she thinks about it.
But Gretel doesn't let wariness cripple her. Food is a never-ending debate: does she eat magically replenishing food or an animal under a spell to speak? Usually she settles for a combination of that and fresh food found in the forest and fields.
Today, she hunts in the forest. When she has three birds, she shoves two into a box packed with snow to keep them cold. The third, she cooks over an open flame. The roasted bird is left as goodwill in the bakery, and she takes a couple loaves of bread. She browses the weapon shop for her still absent crossbow. After a trip to the item shop to look over the shelves, she puts her birds away in the fridge of the communal kitchen for the housing she took.
At the end of the day, she'll be in Good Spirits, enjoying honeyed ale that reminds her of her world and her brother.]
(I will warn in headings for any spoilers, and please make a note if you haven't seen the movie and want me to avoid spoilers. Should be easy for me to do! Strong language may occur in threads.)

Dare I ask what you've got in there?
*spoils everything, just for you* It was all a dream and then you see the Statue of Liberty
[One is for her, period. The other... she'll offer to her close neighbors or eat herself if none of them take her up on it.]
... rosebud
[It's not that Will is unaccustomed to living on a ship where the only way to get live food is to slaughter it yourself. Which is precisely why making use of the stock in the village was appealing.]

[And the weird issues of magic on all sides... she's still working all of those out.]
i saw it so spoil away
Can I help you?
noted! spoiler free right now, will warn if/when that changes
[It's nothing more than a shop patron making an order with the staff. Not quite a request, but, then, she's not asking for it for free. And, as if to make her point, she sets the cooked bird down on the counter and offers a bit of a smile.]

[ Although she'll get to the bird part in a second, because that's just a bit out of the ordinary; some places, like the smithy, do trade on favors, but considering who runs the bakery...well, they normally work on feeling productive and keeping busy.
Nojiko goes to open up the bread box - fresh that morning - pulling on a pair of gloves and selecting two dark, returning to bag them fairly quickly. ] I haven't seen you around before. The bakery goods are free, by the way - not that I'm saying the bird isn't appreciated.
[ But just so they're clear. ]

I don't like asking things for free or giving stuff away. If I'm leaving with something? I'm bringing something.
[It seems fair to her.
She doesn't kill witches for free, but she doesn't tell a town she's killed a witch just to collect money either. Or expect them to just give her things. Since there's no money here to sell things for or buy things with, favors and trades have to do.]

The loaves are set on the counter, neatly wrapped, and Nojiko immediately pulls out another bag to start wrapping the bird. She'll keep it in storage until the boss gets back, and maybe they'll have lunch or something. ] Like I said, it wasn't a complaint by any means. I'm surrounded by baked goods most days; it's nice to see things that aren't baked in any way, shape or form.

I'm Gretel. I haven't been too social lately. More getting to know the lay of the land before I really went out of my way to meet anyone.
[And the damage she'd done to her wing had kept her pretty off her feet for the first while she was here.]

[ In other words, people she sort of trusted explained it all to her. Which helped. She would have been a lot less obliging, otherwise. Nojiko was putting the bird away as she talked, and now she goes back to leaning against the counter, casually. ]
Just wait until your first experiment. [ That's said a little wryly. Really, you don't want to wait for that. ]
no subject
I've heard about the experiments, and I'm pretty sure I'm going to want to shoot them the first time they decide to screw with me.
no subject
[ ...Yep, that's a pretty legitimate reaction. ] People still do that. The last one - discounting a few confused days I'm not including - had to do with unnaturally happy, nosy elf doll...things.
[ actually, several people did shoot those. Go figure. ] Although all talk points to the next one probably having something to do with Valentine's. Apparently a yearly thing.
no subject
[Not a thing in her world, but it obviously means something around here, if this woman's referencing it. Also if the... things... keeping them here make it yearly.
Maybe a little more information on these things can tell her what's really behind them. Because if they're enchantments... Oh. She's going to have fun finding the witches working for the Malnosso.]

Apparently the experiments around then are love-related.
no subject
Love related?
no subject
[ For what good the warning will do, she'll give it.
She also likes talking to customers sometimes. It keeps her occupied. ]
no subject
What kind of love are we talking about? [Because now the Witch Hunter part of the brain is actively engaged.] Sweet, sappy, "one true love" bullshit? Or the "you will love me or I'll wear your skin" stuff?
no subject
And I can't say love spells are a huge part of the pirate era, so...
