[The forests are interesting to a person accustomed to such things. To someone living in an apartment all her life, who only saw trees and animals in books, this tangible experience is amazing.]

[Elizabeth runs through the paths, stopping to run her fingers through grass or chase after a squirrel. Birds are familiar, but the small animals are thrilling.]

[In between her encounters with wildlife, Elizabeth sings little snatches of songs and stops to sketch things (especially the animals when they stay still enough). It's surreal, how different this place is from Columbia. Still, however larger this cage is, it's still a cage...]

[A beautiful young woman with long black hair and a white New Feather dress steps through the village plaza, clearly confused and clearly lost. It feels strange not having her sword on her person. For the moment, searching for her brother has left her mind. She's just trying to figure out where she is now.]

[Once Karla has retrieved her sword and has gotten more or less settled in Luceti, she decides to give this Battle Dome a shot. For now, she's accepted the fact that she can't search for her brother, but she would continue to train until she returns home. If she lets her skills wane, she'll never find him.]

[She enters the Battle Dome, and...she's not sure what to do next. All of these little lights and buttons and controls make no sense to her. So until someone steps in and helps her out with it, she'll either be staring blankly at the controls, or watching the battle simulations through the observation windows.]

[So Karla has heard that people can communicate through these journals, so she gives it a try. She's very curious to learn more about this place. She may be seen fumbling with the pages as she speaks.]

I would like to learn a little more about this place. I'm particularly curious about this Battle Dome. It looks different from the arenas where I come from.

[Now that the grocery store is apparently selling its food, Flynn has decided to survive off the vending machine son the observation floor. But it's not quite working the way it's supposed to. That is, at all. He kicks the machine when it doesn't spit out his coveted Payday.]

[Where there's a water source with natural life, there's Oscar. Or at the least, his torso; the rest of him (arms and legs and head and all) is submerged, and he won't be surfacing anytime soon. Why? Because he's talking to a fish, and it's best to talk to fish in the water. Overall it's a very awkward position for him, but that's not stopping him from engaging in an earth-shattering discussion with aquatic life.

Or he needs something better to do.]

B:

[Oscar's lost a couple of feathers. While the loss isn't too bad, he's hunkered down to reach over his shoulder and assess the structure in case of unknown injury. Once he deduces that there's no lasting damage to be had, he slumps rather sluggishly against the bench and, with his head rested back, sighs loudly.

He looks about ready to slide off the bench, the way he's going. It feels like he just ran ten miles nonstop.]

C:

[At the grocery store, Oscar stares long and hard at a shelf in one aisle. Eventually, he removes a box of Pocky and peers inside, then procures one stick from the pack.

Why is it so skinny—oh, there goes half of that. He stares dumbly at the tip of his boot where the fallen half of the Pocky lies.

Oh . . . ]

[ It's been about a month now since Primrose found herself elsewhere. Thought she knows the name - Luceti - she can't help but think of it like that. It's not a real place, really (except it is, because it's nothing like a dream), and it's so strange...but there are things she likes to do in this life after death.

I: Sometimes she'll spend a morning in the item shop. Not getting anything, really - it's still a little hard to trust and believe that it's allowed, just taking whatever you need, and she's yet to actually take anything, not even a spoon or something more innocuous - so much as picking up this or that and wondering at some of the odder items. Some of it she recognizes and some of it she doesn't, but it's a sort of game to try to figure out which is which, regardless. To poke around the shelves and to find brightly colored plastic toys, sometimes, that she's never sure how to use.

She's easy to sneak up on when she's looking at something else - or at any other time, really. Prim isn't the sister who looks for danger, even when she ought to.

II: There's also the library. Books you can take out whenever you want, and more than she'd ever seen in one place. There'd been books in school, and some at District thirteen, but not the variety here. Picture books, stories - medical texts that are pretty enough she almost wants to cry.

There's no real rhyme or reason to the piles she collects in the afternoons, except for anything that caught her eye. She'll take them out to the fountain, or a bench in town, and she'll read cross-legged until the light fades enough that she wanders back home.

III: She's not suffering a wing injury - at least, not unless she is! - but Prim likes to lurk near the clinics. She's not worked up the courage to ask about maybe helping - she could run errands, maybe! - but she likes being nearby and looking at the facilities, although the side effect of lurking is, well. Looking a bit obvious, if you're not accustomed to it.

She's thirteen and tiny, though, so at least she doesn't look particularly dangerous? ]

OPTION 001 -- ACTION

[ weapons: she needs them. a bowgun, perhaps. or a magnum if she's very very lucky. but a knife would do, in a pinch, if life and undeath hung in the balance. but this gravel path -- wreathed in spring blossoms -- barely seemed to belong to the same world as the ruination and apocalypse she so recently knew, back home.

this only makes her more wary. she needs to find some sort of secure location. she needs to identify and connect with potential allies. and she needs something capable of shredding brains at point blank range.

and so claire redfield -- denim bike jacket hauled comfortably over her new feather dress -- can be found scouring the stores and the smithy for all those delicious little things a young woman needs to survive...well? anything. ]

OPTION 002 -- VOICE

[ a calm female voice cuts across the journals: ] My name is Claire Redfield. I'm -- I was...

I'm looking for my brother. Chris. [ she understands that he might not be here. no one might be here -- at least, none that she knows. the thought sends panic straight to her gut. the panic was what drove her to ask the question in the first place. ] If he's here...? If he's ever been here? I need to know.

[ a pause. a sigh. ] Thank you.

[Must be new feather time. Derek's gotten used to this bi-monthly event. He'd been working on a small lamp, but he'll put it and the tool he had in his hands down to pull the journal over so he can speak into it.]

[Question: What happens in Luceti most days?

Answer: Not much.

At least not much to hold the interest of an active teenage girl. Zatanna's been there just long enough to come to terms with the fact that yes, she really has wings, and no, they really aren't in Happy Harbor any more. While she knows there's a lot more to it, the Malnosso haven't actually done anything during Zatanna's short tenure. Instead she's been left to her own devices--which may not turn out to be a good thing.

So today is a day for exploring. Whatever there is to find in this place, Zatanna plans to seek it out. The public areas come first: the Battle Dome definitely seems cool, and she'll spend some time shopping--provided it still counts as shopping in a place with no money. She also spends some time outside too, trying to see if she can sense any of those spirits she's read about.

Later on, she might drop by the homes of people she's met, just to see if anyone's home and free to hang out. And if they aren't there, and it happens to be the home of someone she's especially curious about or gets along really well with? She might let herself in anyway. It's a harmless indulgence, honestly; Zatanna just wants to get to know people better. Besides, who doesn't expect some mischief from a teenager? Especially a bored one.]

[Jason happens to be in the store today, too. That whole thing about stuff being free here? He totally appreciates it. It never really gets old.

Of course, even then, he never really takes more than he needs. Jason heads through the store with only a baseball in hand, tossing it up into the air and humming a song to himself as he makes his way out. Accidents happen, though, especially when you aren't paying too much attention, and the ball goes a little higher than he planned. The humming promptly stops.]

[He turns, looking to see where the ball disappeared to. He might feel a little bad if someone tripped over it or something...]

[ Do you know what Luceti has been lacking on those quiet afternoons? Music. Boy Blue is changing that though; sitting on the edge of the fountain with his trumpet. He starts some of his more cheerful favorites, figuring a nice afternoon doesn't need any sad songs just yet. Just don't ask him to play Tijuana Taxi, he won't do it.

Feel free to bother this kid who's probably making it hard to get a nap, that trumpet gets some volume on it. ]


Action B

[ Blue is spending some time in the library, what with the lack of a comic book store he needs to get his comic book fix somewhere and this is it. He's sitting amongst the stacks with a pile of comic books that he's pretty sure are from another world. ]

Not sure the Un-Mundy can stand up to this kinda stuff...

[ Look out for the little blonde roadblock in the aisle, he's pretty darn absorbed. ]

What kind of stuff? [Elizabeth is behind said roadblock, holding several thick books in her arms and looking over his shoulder--or at least trying to. This looks like something she hasn't seen before! How exciting!]

A: Duck is hanging around the fountain with a bag of bread in hand, tossing out pieces for the throng of birds that is constantly growing around her. The little things just seem to love her, chattering excitedly as she tells them all about Luceti. Yes, she's talking to the birds. But who can blame her? They're such good listeners!

B: In the library!! Duck is hardly a bookworm, but she was still perplexed as to how she had ended up here. Was it part of the story? There was only one way to find out, so she took the Fakir Approach and tried to find familiar books authored by Drosselmeyer among the tomes. However, she doesn't get far, quickly falling face first into an open book in front of her with a snore. She's totally zonked. ]

Zuko | Avatar: the Last Airbender

[Luceti is a hard place to get used to, and uncertainty can wear on a person's nerves - especially when said person happens to be Zuko.

It would be easy enough to get angry, snap at the others as they try and explain things to him (and he has already, let's not kid ourselves), but he knows they're doing their best. He can't allow himself to vent his frustrations out on them. He's done that too much in the past.

Aang or even his uncle would probably encourage him to meditate, or at least attempt it, but he already knows that isn't going to get him far. So instead he decides to do something to keep himself active and focus his mind elsewhere.

In a clearing not too far from town, he goes through the same routine he'd lead Aang through for their morning training. Except this version is lengthened, meant more to wear him out then to warm him up. The occasional burst of flame accompanies his movements. Nothing large, all well controlled. Control is one of the most important aspects of firebending, after all. It and anger have a lot in common.]

[ Wow, Zuko! That sure is some serious firebending! You probably want to be left to do that in peace, huh?

Sadly, being left to practice in peace isn't in the cards for the day, because in a clearing not far from town there is also a small child, approaching at top speed. Although she does, at least, dig her heels in and stop running once she's closer, not going for a hug given the fact Zuko is firebending.

Yelling, though? Yelling to get his attention is a-okay, right? ]

HEY! HEY, UNCLE ZUKO! [ That's the same nickname a lot of people from their world get - the first part, anyway - so he shouldn't be too surprised except for the sudden shouting. ] HEY, are you done yet how long is this going to take did you eat anything yet today if not do you wanna take me somewhere I want to get a CAKE we could even get a red one because you probably like the color red, huh?

[ Ikki apparently doesn't feel the need to ease into getting to know Zuko, to the surprise of no one. Grandpa Aang likes him? He's the future retired Fire Lord? He's from her world? Basically enough for her to run with, and happily so. He's certainly on the "list of people you're allowed to trust", anyway, although he might not want to be there. ]

[ Lehra is where she most often is: the beach. She can't bring herself to be comfortable on lang, though she tries and spends less and less time at the beach. But a water faerie needs her water. Showering and bathing doesn't really satisfy the way that salt water does.

The skirt of the white dress is hitched up as she lounges in the rising tide. Her legs before her have taken on the form of her usual deep blue fin, letting herself enjoy the water but keeping close to the shore for now. She considers taking off into the ocean, but perhaps later. She's enjoying the sun on her skin and the water on her scales. She leans her head back and sighs happily. ]

B

[ Lehra is wandering through town. She's hardly one for staying still. She's on two legs and wears no shoes, only the white dress she arrived in. She still doesn't understand the need for clothes... Her pale white skin reveals blue and gold scales in patches in various places, and her long white hair nearly brushes the ground behind her, even though most of it is pulled back. It still engulfs her wings.

She takes in the stores, stopping at a clothing shop and staring in curiosity at the clothes on display. ]

Do people actually wear those? [ She wonders allowed. ]

[What a person wouldn't see every day in if they're passing through the grocery shop: A sign in the window, that says 'NO LONGER FOR FREE', and woman very determinedly looking at the merchandise inside and trying to mark the shelves with prices.

Which may seem harmless until the next person who tries to pick up, say, a carton of milk, or a bag of fruit, or so forth, is ready to be followed around and reminded, half cheerily and somewhat bluntly:]

[Because food being free doesn't make sense to this young woman who is only trying to make sense of her life. Unless you're scavenging in some sort of apocalyptic town, which this clearly isn't.]

[With not much else to do, Anya has spent a considerable amount of time examining the book, but not enough attempting to use it. But she decides that will change, because she has something to say.]

Hello people.

So. Everything about this place? Totally nuts! There's no money, no trade, and even the technology is half-assed. I mean, this? Either be a book or a phone, not some weird hybrid of both that doesn't even function like one. [She picks it up, turns it around, ruffles a few pages.]

See? It's so clunky! And looking up people by their barcodes? How messed up is that? And yet, I don't see any prices on the food or items or clothing that don't actually belong to anyone here. It's like, a communist paradise! There is no point to being here. And that's kind of sad. You know? Just - going along with being used and people wanting to leave, and ... there is just no real point. Ugh. That is so not where I wanted to go with this...

[There were limits to his patience.

Barnaby settled himself into a booth in the back of Seventh Heaven that afternoon, frustrated from his search through the shops that afternoon. He had spent the afternoon looking for something that had suddenly gone missing that morning, and a part of him suspected foul play. Although he had been in Luceti for a few weeks, he still had his doubts about the place. But, seeing Kotetsu alive and well was enough to give him pause. Suspicious as it was, his partner had never intentionally given him a reason to doubt.

It was why he decided to send a message over the journals once more, despite his hesitations. He kept it brief; there was no reason to say more.]

[Felix is having a bit of a dilemma and can't find his hammer. It's not at the shops like people have been telling him, so he's hopping all over the place trying to find his golden hammer. He's trying to keep calm, but the longer he searches, the more distraught he gets.]

[And now Felix is at Cloud Nine and doing the hottest 8-bit dance of all time. Although he's not against learning some new moves, since he's a little behind the times.]

[Ralph sighs as he's dragged along yet again to look for the hammer. Sure, he felt this weird, overwhelming joy at seeing the little guy around again. But that was at constant risk with his dwindling patience.]

Luceti was, in a word, frustrating. Oh, sure, he'd discovered the library had a wealth of history on cultures that he had, two weeks ago, never heard of. But that's all there was. Reading. There were no treasures, no mysteries, no nothing. The best there was? A temple under the ocean. Which did him a hell of a lot of good when it came to one of the only things he was good at.

But he settles and for the first time ever, he's in the library reading the Silmarillion because it looks like for once, all of this stuff is going to actually be useful. Suddenly he wishes he'd spent more times reading comic books and watching TV as a kid. Maybe Charlie had the right idea after all.

When he's had enough of that, he picks up a beer at the bar and goes outside to drink it in the cold night air. There's nothing wrong with bars, it's just that he often meets people who want to kill him in them. And when people want to kill him, buildings have a tendency to start collapsing. Being out in the open was, for the moment, just a bit more relaxing.

Libraries were meant to be silent places: cathedrals to learning. But for the last seven years, Claire has found little solace in silence. Silent was what you had to be when you wanted to survive, your back pressed against a concrete wall as monsters prowled the hall beyond the corner. Silent was what a city was after it had been...dealt with for the sake of confidentiality. And despite remaining optimistic in the wake of so much tragedy, silence was something Claire could never accept. Because whenever she inhabited silence, she started to imagine moans in the distance. Footsteps. Far-off crackling fires.

So -- here in the library -- she fought off the creeping silence by crunching contentedly on a handful of crisp green grapes. Perhaps they weren't loud to the building as a whole, but she relished the sounds as they reverberated 'round the inside of her head. Besides, she wouldn't be here long. She only wanted to grab a copy of one of the classics. Pride and Prejudice, perhaps. Something without an ounce of horror.

But just as she'd selected a suitably austere and bonnet-filled title, she caught sight of the man and his book and oh, how she wanted to break the silence just a little bit more. Claire tucked her selection under an arm and stood a few feet away from the stranger.

Option 1

[Jake's spending some time in the battle dome and taking out a few virtual zombies with an Ustanak mixed in. People might consider this overkill setting, but Jake seems to be having the time of his life, especially when he can use firearms.]

[He just wanted a few drinks, but he ends up riling up a few people at Good Spirits and starts a bar fight. Was it you he pissed off or are you trying to stop the fight? Even better, are you joining in?]

Option 3

[Dude is in the flower shop. Let's just say he accidentally stepped on a few garden plants so he's here to get a replacement so the owner can shut up. He's not going to be in there long so you can catch him as he leaves with a flower pot.]

[ speaking of trouble at good spirits? perhaps the fight has wound down and it's time to pick up all the little bits of splintered wood. and give a swift kick in the pants to the perpetrators.

buffy stands before this guy and pinches the bridge of her nose. ] Look, buster, I don't know what you're playing at...but here? I kinda like it when my bar fixtures don't get busted up. Consider this your one warning.

[Out in a clearing in the forest, Relx is training, as he swings a wooden sword with smooth and skilled movements that should be beyond his age. It might be an odd sight to see a 12-year-old with such an intent expression, but, well, that's how it is. His face as he swings his sword is utterly blank, if not eerily so.]

b)

[Somehow, one way or another, Relx found himself in the bar—mind you, without any idea what the establishment is—apparently unnoticed by anyone who would kick out the clearly underage kid. As for Relx himself, he just holds a hand to his head, frowning slightly.]

... It's too noisy.

c)

[Whoops, his wing's injured pretty badly, with noticeable bleeding. Relx, for his part, doesn't appear to be in pain, as he attempts to examine the injury, albeit not with much success at this angle.

It honestly doesn't even occur to him to get outside help, considering that's never really been a thing in his life.]

I should get bandages...

[Or something. He's not too sure how one deals with wing injuries.]

[Just a random nurse passing by. Well, "nurse," but he doesn't know that.

My, now, what seems to be the problem?]

I could help you with that. [She smiles slightly. Standing there in her white lab coat, she doesn't appear at all to be dangerous.] But first, let's examine it, shall we?

[ The grocery's out of food? Well, Gothel isn't about to starve because of this villages nonsense. Oh, no, there is no way that's happening. So the obvious, logical conclusion is to steal whatever food other people might be stashing away.

Which means she's breaking into houses, quietly trying to slip in and out without being noticed. Perhaps you catch her as she breaks in or as she leaves. You might even spot her stopping briefly to admire herself in a mirror.

She might not even be in your house. Maybe you just see her walking towards her own place with an armful of groceries when she shouldn't even have them. Suspicious. ]

[ Mother Gothel was mallynapped!!! Or maybe it's just an experiment it doesn't really matter, because in either case she is now fucking ancient. And is trying very desperately to hide this fact as she makes a beeline to the items shop, grumbling unhappily as she goes.

Why doesn't she cary heavy cloaks around with her, again? They used to be all the rage. ]

[Gothel may make it safely to the fridge of Community House 1 in the middle of the night. But in the middle of this fridge raid, the kitchen lights will turn on. Jade is sitting there at the table, his hands folded next to a cup of tea, as if he'd been there the entire time. The Necromancer gives an oddly cheery smile.]

Excuse me, ma'am. You appear to be lost.

[In other words, you've come to the wrong neighborhood. Jade would normally not be so concerned - the reactions of the others to the food theft could be amusing - but he does not wish to risk the chance that she could take Ion's medication with all the food.]

Skysong "Kitten" | The Immortals (Tamora Pierce)

Option 1:

[Kitten cranes her long neck around to get a look at the second pair of wings. The feathers are still fairly bewildering. She may have hollow bones and be warm-blooded, but Kitten has always been outwardly more lizardlike than birdlike. Their size doesn't bode particularly well for functionality, either.

She's much too young to fly, but there's never been an infant dragon with two pairs of wings before; two pairs might cancel out the small size of either individual pair. Kitten would be remiss if she didn't at least test them. It can't hurt to try! Well, it could, but not if she's careful. Give her some credit for common sense. She won't be climbing any trees or buildings and then jumping. Perhaps a bench, table, or the like if liftoff from the ground proves too difficult. A bench is a reasonable height.

Passers-by may stumble across a two foot tall dragon in the village doing her best to fly using not one but two pairs of wings that aren't up to supporting her.]

Option 2:

[Because she is almost as hungry as she is curious, Kitten stops in her exploration of the village when she finds a restaurant. She whistles the door unlatched and shoulders her way into Seventh Heaven. Lack of verbal communication is the most minor of obstacles. Kitten will order food just fine somehow, although she isn't certain how she'll pay for it.]

((Prose is also fine! Note that Kitten doesn't speak human, though she understands it just fine. Come play dragon charades.))
